If you do some searches I believe it’s an updated trans thermostat. I know I read a thread on the subject. The guys who run those hot temps need the updated version because my 22 runs 147-151 and that’s confirmed on both my older scan gauge 2 and my new scan gauge 3.

My transmission usually stays in the low 170's while towing my travel trailer. Only time I ever break 180 is when backing the TT up my steep driveway.

I have an analogy for you that might make sense I hope.  Back in the day, I'm talking way back in my day and before my time as well.  Racers would take out the thermostat and install a washer that had about a quarter sized opening.  Why, because it slowed the anti freeze down to a point that it could be cooled by the radiator.  Without that washer, the fluid was passing so fast through the radiator that it didn't have a chance to cool down.  Same theory is used for the fluid passing through the transmission.  You want it to have a chance to cool down when it goes through the radiators.  Now I'm not saying that a wide open bypass in the Rams wouldn't work out well.  That depends on fluid flow of course.  I hope this helped.

Yes makes sense. Its worth a try to simply use the uldated one. I just need a part number if anyone has it. Again I dont trust dealerships sad to say

 

There are a bunch of kits that simply bypass it so its always open. Thats the same thing we use in the Rams. What are your concerns about that? Just curuous.

I don't honestly know.  I don't have experience with bypassing the trans thermostat.  So I'm not sure if it would cause problems in a GM or not.  Fluid flow is everything.  You want your engine to heat up quickly and GM has done an amazing job at that.  Better efficiency, quicker heat to the vents when cold out....that's a big thing there for me.  But as far as the transmission is concerned, I honestly don't know.  You could take one for team and try it out if you want.  My trans runs really cool and that's a good thing for a transmission.  The cooler the better, they don't like heat at all....
