I found this kind of interesting on how GM is equipping the new 2024 Custom models

Most vehicles with very little care will go 120-150K. Then there’s the stuff that will give up without warning at the most inconvenient time. I’ve never broke down where I couldn’t reach my destination. At 67 I’m set enough that a car payment won’t ruin me. Between me and my wife we’ve position ourselves to live comfortably on our Social Security. That’s what a frugal lifestyle gives you. So thinking out loud I’m questioning whether I’m comfortable with a 7 year old 130K mile Odyssey for a trip vehicle. Sure they’re known to go 200K miles easily. Most vehicles now will. For 20K for a new one with the old one traded in. Would probably give me 7 years before it hits 100K miles. By 7 years I won’t be traveling as far. Wouldn’t be a reason to. My wife’s father is 93. My travels would be much closer. Think about this. In this market you could get better than half your original cost for your truck. You could get a replacement of the same truck for half the price. A new pepper for half. You ain’t going to do it? That’s what’s rattling in my head. Actually it’s less for a similarly equipped Odyssey.

Probably not. Pepper is paid for. That cost is zero. I have no debt and I don't want any. Of course, "...time and unforeseen circumstances befall all men". Tornado could rip through here before I finish this paragraph and force my hand. But willingly, I'm good with what I have.

Looks wise on the inside yes, same interior as before on WT and Custom.  All get updated front ends, gas gains the 10 speed Allison, so not quite "same truck basically".

not quite but it will cost a lot more to get those over a 23......if your getting everything its lil easier to swallow, 5-10k  difference locally.......

Of course it’s not a good time right now so I’m sticking with it. If it becomes a buyers market who knows. If it strands me, curtains.

We just got a 2024 Custom.  It was about $2000-2500 more than the last 2023 we sold, same options.

Everybodys different.Paying interest doesn't' interest me.

It depends.  Up until the last year interest was cheap.  I would bet over 5 years somebody would spend less than interest then you did on maitnenence.  Second vehicles arent 20k anymore,  20k gets you a 10 year old vehicle withe 150k on it, no thanks to that.  Not impossible but loans or leases are here for the majority on vehicles.  For me I can afford it, have to get to work, travel etc, not playing around with an old truck and potential problems.

My credit union still has very good interest rates. That was a factor in my decision to sell the 21. The 21 and the 24 are almost identical (The 24 has about $700 more of options) and the price comparison is that the 24 will cost me about 7k more than the 21 did but has some content that the 21 didnt have or wasnt available.

My initial goal was to keep the 21 until well past its payoff. I drove my 2005 Duramax 2500HD for 150k miles and it was as reliable as it ever was (which wasnt always great) I sold it because we sold the big trailer I needed it to pull and we were going to downsize.

While I was still working I always had 2 jobs. My goals were always to retire early while I was still young and pretty enough to enjoy it. I have achieved the goal despite circumstances sometimes working against me.

Are the GM trucks as easily upgraded tech wise as Fords?

If you're missing something/want higher trim options typically you just buy the part, wiring seems to already be there for just about everything anyway, snap in the part, check some boxes in Forscan, and you're good to go.

I like the Custom, especially for the price, but I wouldn't mind the phone/radio controls the LT and up offer.
