"diminished the desirability of the 23's"

Theres a difference in the two comments @Dr1ft3r

There's no difference. That's still an opinion. There may be a diminished desirability of the 23's for you, but for me the 24's have increased the desirability of the 23's.

I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just saying...

Strange as it may sound, considering I've been truck shopping for almost a month, my wife and I took a 21 for a test drive yesterday. First time driving a 2020+ truck. There has literally been no 6.6 gas trucks in my area to test drive until recently.

We like it. The 23 we have a deposit on will be lightyears ahead of anything we have ever or currently own.

We are only 2 people with clearly disparate thoughts on the matter, the market will ultimately make the decision. I have no skin in this game.

Me and my gasser/10 spd will go happily down the road hunting for the right gear

I'm not the person which stated the 10 speed has to hunt for gears. It sounds to me like you feel the need to justify your purchase to everyone else since you want to discount other people's opinions which contradict your own. I couldn't care less what you buy. If you want the 10 speed then go for it! I'm not here to dissuade anyone. I just know what I like and I don't care if you like it or not.

Good luck in your endeavor.

Oooff…sorry didn’t intend on stirring the pot with the original post. Not my intention.

What it boils down to for me is cost. The 24 is just above what I set for a budget for a truck. I was hoping for possible better discounts on the 23 models. Because of the differences in transmissions. Not in the near term. Probably. The HD truck market in my area has such pent up demand that dealers will sell every one before they even hit the lot. I had to put a deposit on a 23 an 8 hour drive away.

cheers

Black sheep 23, no.  They're nice trucks with proven powertrains and well-ironed-out kinks in things like infotainment, etc.

However, in order for me to consider one, it'd need to be VERRY steeply discounted.

I, for one, welcome the 10 speed AND the new interior.  I tow in the mountains and go cross-country with a travel trailer.  I have a half ton with the 5.3L and one of the rare, good 8 speed transmissions.  In the rolling hills of the Ozarks, for instance, I could use another cog between 3 and 4.  6.6 is a whole different beast, but with two less gears, has the same issues.  Even the RAM 6.4L with 8 speed needs more gears.

Yep, it's more complex, but I don't want a diesel and the 10 speed ensures you're pretty much always right in the sweet spot.

@the8rotor I'm very much looking forward to your towing report!

Thanks @UWSkier that is the common take on the difference that would be very helpful while towing. The 3-4 shift. At least those familiar, of which I am not. I can’t recall if it was on a forum or a YT video that I read/heard that.

For me I doubt I’d know. I will be going from a 2001 Suburban with the 8.1L to a 6.6 gas motor and  likely a 23 with 6 speed. My budget is Custom trim level with the least amount of options. The only option I care about is the 10 way power driver seat. Just sitting in one of these 2020+ trucks just blows me away. I may wish for more once I get used to a modern vehicle. But our newest is an 05 Yukon, so I’m kinda stuck in the past.

@UWSkier I had the same report in the Ozarks as you did. My '21 gasser took the hills just fine, but it was not as comfortable as it should have been. Always stuck with me that I wanted more from my 6 speed.

We shall see with the 10. Family and I drove the truck around town tonight to get some more miles on her before some fresh RedLine and Wix filter go in and the hauling begins! Still hoping to tow in a couple weeks as I need to get my TT inspected so she's road worthy for the year.

Wife drove the truck for the first time today. She's no slouch with driving - we met at a car show and she can get after it in my fun cars slamming gears and getting sideways... BUT, she was convinced the new truck had double the power of our black one 🤣. 1st gear torque is awesome and she about broke the ass end loose 🤦🏼‍♂️🤣🤣

Truck is breaking in nicely!

I just picked up a new 23 High country for few reasons and I had the refresh in a 1500.....I could have waited for a 24

6 speed is fine for me

Aside from infotainment screen I didnt care for the refresh and prefer layout of 23

Paid alot less than MSRP ( 12% ish)

My trade had I waited longer would have went down considerably

24s are marked up in my area and selection isn't close to what I have now, it would be 4 months before I had options to choose from

In a cpl years the HD will be completely redone anyway

You just get used to whatever you have and as long as it functions well it's not a big deal....

I love my truck, but can see where others really need or want a 24......I didn't after owning the 1500 or at least not to the point I would give away the pluses for the choice I made

Wish in one hand and……ya’ll know the rest.

A dealer 8 hours West of me discounted their 23’s by $4000. And a previously spoken for truck became available.

I made a deal as fast as I could and the loan should fund in the morning (after midnight right now, can’t sleep).

I just bought a 2023 Silverado 2500 HD Custom!!!!

I got a one way plane ticket for Friday and will drive it home.

Congrats! Sharp looking truck. I prefer the no running board look and wouldn’t have added a pair if it was only me but I have height challenged humans in my care so we needed running boards.

get some rear wheel well liners in there!

The 10L1000 is a Ford 10R140.

Wrong.  So are all of your claims about the 10spd branded Allision having issues, that transmission has been nothing short of stellar paired to the diesel.  Hopefully it's as good matched the 6.6 gas.

Thanks! Yes, I too have vertically challenged humans in my family unit. So step assist units will be required.

Forgot about wheel well liners. Great idea!
