Perhaps I have missed this in prior conversations concerning the 10 speed behind the gasser.

Is GM putting the exact same 10 speed tranny behind the gasser as it does with the diesel?  To me that wouldn't make much sense because the gasser is half the torque of what the diesel is.  But if that's the case....holy crap...talk about not even barely using the limits of the allison with the gasser engine...

I haven't read a lot on this topic so my knowledge isn't worth much. But I do recall something to the effect of lighter clutch packs and converter. The weight of those components in the diesel 10 speed would rob too much power from the gas engine.

The guy that put out the video you posted said he confirmed it is the EXACT same transmission as the diesel, same part number.  He comfirmed that through some sources.  It has been great with my Duramax so should barely break a sweat matched to the gas motor.

Yes, its the Allison 10L1000. 

 

No, its not the EXACT same part #.  Gas is 24294430, diesel is 24297785 and its about $1000 difference in price.  

 

Gas 10L1000 has a different torque converter, different clutch pack p/ns (so probably a clutch or two less per pack than the L5P).  

 

More to add, lots of the internal hard parts appear to be the same #s as well.

Out of sheer morbid curiosity how much does that trans cost?

I’m surprised it’s cheaper than the 6spd. Seems suspicious.

That price doesn't make sense to me.  I know that newdude is of course telling us the truth.  But seriously????  One of the main reasons I bought our 22 was because it had the old reliable 6L90E.  And I looked it up to have it replaced if needed off warranty and it was like 3500 bucks.  Of which I thought ok, that's doable.  So I'm thinking in my tiny brain that the 10 speed is going to be at least double that....I was wrong again apparently...

Really doesn't make sense - I bet the infotainment system is $8k 🤣
