Hey All,

I was drivin' a long yesterday and noticed my odometer roll over 165k miles. Current mileage is 166678. I got a 94' Silverado, so that puts me at 16667.8 miles a year. Yearly mileage sounds pretty average, but 166 is a lot. What kinda longevity should I expect with a very well taken care of TBI 4.3L? Quarter million?

One thing is for sure ,if you take care of it , it will run pretty far... I had a 1995 C1500 turbo diesel ,and put 160.000 miles on it ,never rebuild it.

On My new one (C-1500 5.3 liter flexfuel) ,I change the oil when the oil life system shows 50% life ,best mineral oil avaible 5w-30.

I think it will run about 300k miles for sure!I hope.

I sold my first 2001 Silverado Z71 at 120,000 miles. That was in 2005 and I'm pretty sure its got between 175,000 and 200,000 on it now. I still see it when I'm home on the weekends. I just sold my second 2001 at 96,000 miles which still drove like a new one.

My granddad has a 1995 C2500 with 275,000 on it, my uncle has a 1994 GMC Sierra Z71 with 280,000 miles on it, and my other uncle has a 1993 Silverado with over 300,000 on it.

So yeah, they last!

My last 4.3 got 216,xxx before the tranny puked out, actually it was the 3rd tranny on the truck. aparently the 4.3 was not designed for heavy hauling 5 days a week. traded it in for an 02 silverado with 82,xxx miles which is like new

  • 3 weeks later...

2000 Silverado Z71 5.3 with 119K, runs great. Just plugs and wires that I know of (got it at 88K).

I'm planning to drive the wheels off of it, as long as it will run! Plans for this year include new tires and maybe a new front end (this truck has had a LOT of off road fun in its life). It tows my 25' travel trailer every couple of months, too.

I've seen no mention of timing chains here...any concern there?

Love this forum - great info. Thanks guys.

My dad has a '99 with a 5.3 that has well over 200k miles and it runs better then new.

I had a 90 GMC 5.7L with 410 000 kms when I sold it ! Still had lots of jam left in the pedal to lay a nice patch on the pavement.
