My dream truck, what is yours?

I’ve just read a review in car and driver about a super charger package direct from Ford with a warranty. Making 700hp with the 5.0. About the same time I read an article that a Ford dealership in Georgia that will install that package on a regular cab work truck. Out the door for 45K.

Was that dealer in Union City?  Reason I ask is because back in the early 90's there was a ford dealer called Gene Evans Ford.  They specialized in doing aftermarket/factory mods to the fox body 5.0L like I had.  Today they are Autonation.  I was just wondering if they are still the premier dealership for doing mods.

I imagine there’s several dealerships that will do the mods. Any certified shop could do it. I would check with your local dealership for details. My local dealership probably would they sell all the ford packages. I’m not the speed freak I used to be. I’d jump on the package if I was. I’m more for comfort these days.

I was just curious is all because I remember Gene Evans being the go to dealership for anything you wanted.  Different rear diff gears, superchargers, etc. etc.  I changed out my own rear diff gears from 3.08 to 3.55's on my LX 5.0L.  That is the one car I wish I have never sold!

I have a news app that gives me the local news with ads when traveling. We were staying at Lanett Georgia at our favorite Hampton on the return from Fayetteville. Just up the road is a great Italian restaurant we visit on every trip. The dealership was a local ad, I forget who it was now.

Fayetteville, GA?  That's like 15 minutes from me.

Dream truck huh...hmmm.

1987 3/4 ton Square Body Chevy.  Regular cab, Silverado trim.  4x4.  496 (8.1L) under the hood hooked up to the six speed automatics used in the trucks up till 2022.

Either in a dark Navy blue or the Red Hot.

For now, I will say my '22 Big Red will hold me over 😉

Dream truck....This will get up my steep gravel drive in the worst N.E. snow.  Get the Denali Ultimate for the King Ranch brown leather. And can't forget a new mortgage payment is attached.

No tread wear specs on these however. Turning Radius.....Not so Much.

A Ford Model  "T" pickup, with front ski's and rear tracks, was owned by a Dr. in Maine, to make house calls. Now is at the Rockland, Maine, Owl's Head Transportation Museum.

This is no joke.....many years ago on I-495 around Boston, 6am. , I was coming up behind a state police escort, of an Abrahms Tank on rubber tracks, doing 60 mph.  Three lanes wide there, was able to pass this amazing sight. My cell phone at the time did not have a camera. Dag Nab It.

Must have been going to Ft. Devans, near Littleton, Ma. That facility has since closed a few years ago.

Happy Holidays to All !!

A single rear wheel that hauls as much as a dual rear wheel....

Hold that thought....

Some Pickup Truck history......

In late 1966 my Dad ordered a Rare '67 Dodge D-200 Crew Cab Camper Special (8 ft. Sweptside Box, included a 165 in. stretched frame wheelbase).  A special  very rare little known option were "Flotation Tires", on all fours. These were Goodyear 10 x 16.5"  Super Single tires on Firestone Steel Rims (non-split rim type).

As Dad also ordered a huge Slide In Camper, mfg. by Freeway, in Idaho, was was very heavy. Those "Super Single " tires made all the difference, to carry the weight and drivability, as "Dual Wheel" pickups were not yet available.

If that truck and camper had the stock 7.5 x 16.5' tires, like pictured in the Dodge brochure, would have drove like "white knuckle ride".

Both the 2 & 4 door Pickup Campers in the brochure, show the standard 7.5x16.5" Split Rim wheels and tires.

The '68 Crewcab brochure with a Del-Rey Camper, also shows the stock skinny 7.5x16.5's. It has the same huge King Size cab-over bunk, that my Dad's camper by Freeway had.

Another Dodge Camper brochure pic from '70, with a 2wd. D-300 Crewcab Chassis Camper, (Camper mfg. by Caveman), shows these "Super Single" Flotation tires and non-split rims on the front. I also suspect on the rear as well. As if it were rear Duals, would have protruded out more to the camper edge. (In the day, this could have been ordered with dual rear wheels, a better driving option in my opinion).

I see Tractor Truck & Trailers with single Super Wide tires and rims, to replace duals.

So I would  expect today,  Load Range "D", "E" or better, radial tires to be available in a Super Wide Format, to fit 3/4 & 1 Ton Pickups.

Attached pic of my Dad's Dodge Camper Special I restored.  Replaced the Original Firestone 8.5x16.5" rims with these old Jackman Steel Spoke in front with 10x16.5 Goodyear Super Singles, and I went wider in the rear with Jackman 10x16.5" rims and Goodyear 12x16.5" Super Singles. Also I made custom rear Anti Sway Bar, seen below the Dana-60 axle.

I still have this '67 Dodge, and should research replacement tires soon, as these are Bias-Ply, and getting old.

Thinking of Cooker Tire, Mickey Thompson, Hercules, & some other off road tire  brands,  I have seen on the "Motor Trend" Channel Truck shows, to see if Load Range E are available.

Happy Holidays !

I have don similar mods to past vehicles, 14 bolts, dana 60, 70, and 80 axles.

My real wish would be a single rear wheel factory truck with the load capability to tow a modern tripple axle 5th wheel toy hauler.  I know duallys have benefits, but i would love to not have the duallys shortcomings when i am NOT towing.

An idea....... Get the Dually, put the rears in storage till towing. Get a set of 2"-3" Billet Aluminum 8 bolt wheel spacers, to kick outward and fill the fender flares, and 2 single super wide  rims and tires, as a daily driver ??

Still have a wide fender width tho, if that's an issue.
