Is this a new technique for criminals to gain access to interior of new trucks?

I drove to Spring, TX, north of Houston last week. On Wednesday night someone was able to gain access to the interior of my truck by disconnecting a two wire accessory and either shortening it out or connecting it to an electronic device. They went through every compartment and my suitcase looking for something of value but couldn't find anything,

I have refrained from revealing exactly how they performed this act.

That sux but if you keep it a secret, how would anyone be able to prevent that from happening to them?

I don’t think the criminals are looking around on this forum for tips and tricks. You’re safe to reveal what happened.

Another guy reported that a truck fob was made on site from reading the vin off the dash and the truck was stolen with minutes of the thief pulling up. He said he watched it on the security footage. I was considering taping my vin numbers on the dash so they at least have to break the window.

My wife's 2014 Suburban was "broken into" after someone stole some master FOBs from a dealership a few years back. The rolled into town and hit every GM vehicle they could find.

 

The app on your phone that allows remote unlock makes this a million times worse and scares the piss out of me. I say that with my professional information security hat on.

Someone cut a slit in the wheel well liner and unplugged the horn and the "wire keeper". When I found it the horn wire was laying over top of the tire. My guess is the person shorted the wire or plugged it into an electronic device to deactivate the alarm and unlock the doors. No windows were broken and there was no other damage to my truck. I plugged the horn back in and all was well. I didn't call the police since my brother said they don't appear to care since it happens so much.

They didn't find anything they wanted while rummaging through the glove compartments, center console or my luggage. The hotel desk lady said they're looking for guns or money.

Always file a report. You’re right nothing will be done because our system is broken but it will be one more statistic on the books. 
 

I have a hunch this type of crime will start to drop off noticeably year over year.

Some of the insurance companies up here in Canada have jacked premiums and added a $1,500 surcharge on insurance for these trucks given how easy they seemingly are to steal.  I would take the 'inconvenience' of having to use a key to start it any time.

Yeah I don’t mind using a key in my truck at all.

Someone's always going to find a way. GM is always trying to stay a step ahead but it doesn't last long. Modern thieves are very savvy.

Was in Green Bay last week., -7 Friday morning, plane was scheduled to board at 0537. Didn't board until almost 0600, 7 minutes before scheduled departure. Announced the captain said the cabin was too cold for passenger comfort so had to warm it up. I'm thinking heck I live in West Texas but still had the foresight to warm the car up before headed to the airport. I was thinking this is Green Bay where extreme cold is anticipated, I guess they didn't have the foresight. They should know this...
