Changing Gears on 01 Yukon 2500 4x4

How hard and how expensive would this be to do? I currently have an 8.1ltr with 4.10s and it cranks a few too many rpm for me at highway speeds and thus the gas mileage takes a hit. I mainly use this for hauling the family and occasionally towing. It was a too good of deal to pass up at the time. Any other suggestions other than slowing down? I have tossed around the idea of larger tires to help out, but I did not know how much that will help.

Thanks!

Now I'm no expert but I will do some math for ya. First, my understanding is it costs about $500 per axel to regear. Going from 4.10 to 3.73 is about a 10% reduction. So going up 10% in tire size should do the same. If your burb came with 265s put some 295s on it and see.

It only has little 245's on it and to go up 10% I would need to start changing and trimming to get that size of tire to fit.. I think? 245's to 285's? Is that possible without selling the farm??
