Hey guys great forum great information. Don't know why this thought came

to me but will the change oil light come on for a few seconds while you are driving

or is it just after you shut down and start the engine again ? I understand

how it works but it seems the only time mine came on was when the engine

was started . Maybe I missed it while driving .

You can reset that light by turning the ign switch to the run position (engine off), and stabbing the gas pedal three times within 5 seconds. (Page 6-16 of my 99 owner's manual). It's actually an oil change monitor...but I monitor my oil changes myself and just reset the light when it comes on. :jester:

On '03s and '04s, the light will come on at start up as well as while driving from time to time. As far as ignoring the Oil Life monitoring system on these vehicles, in respect to their purpose, they are designed to monitor and determine oil life and oil change schedules based on your driving habits, external environmental conditions, towing habits, etc. Rather than changing your oil on the usual 3 month/3,000 mile schedule, many people are able to extend their oil changes anywhere from 5,000 to 6,000 most of the time, therefore saving you money and helping the environment by conserving thousands of gallons of oil every year. It took me some getting used to, but I know for a fact that the Oil Life Monitoring System works on the newer trucks and SUVs, and works well. Now, off my soap box I go.

The oil monitor system is only computer code, your oil is not in any way being tested. In fact the system would not know if it had motor oil or plain old peanut oil.

I am pretty sure these trucks have no oil tested equipment(ie..hardware) to do an oil analyst.Probably a HP series 5000 digital spectro blah blah..r or whatever that big machine these labs use are called. It's all software and the software has no idea of the actual condition of the oil, or even if it is oil in the motor. All it knows is what a programmer punched on their keyboard.
