parking assist system

Can't seem to reverse my av as smoothly like my old '85 Sierra K1500.  I know Caddy makes a radar system for their new suv, but is there any aftermarket ones less costly?

I have been looking at a unit from a company called Guardian, they make a number of models, mostly for commercial vehicles, but the have a unit that mounts in the hitch reciever that is about $350 us$ that looks very nice.  Also, I noticed at the local Wal-Mart that there was a unit in the case in the automotive section that looked interesting, although there wasn't a keyholder around so that I could look at it better and get a price.  This was a Canadian Wal-Mart, but most stuff seems fairly consistent with what I see in the States.

Hope this helps

Guardian Alert Backing System

Good point - my Av is a lot harder to gage than my Sierra was.  I have a Park Zone in my garage but the parking structure at work is another story.

Yeah, this may be a good idea...

Here's a confession:

I was trying to back out of Sears pickup dock at the rear of the store which is wedged in the corner of several stores in a mall.  Needless to say the parking area (~5-7 spaces) is very tight, and visibility around several corners is poor.  Also, they have a strange curb setup to "direct the traffic flow" into the micro-lot a certain way.  I start backing up (in the Av), and think I see a yellow concrete poll behind me, so I turn around and check again, and it's not there, so I figure I'm clear...  Keep backing up (slowly, thank goodness), and...

<CLUNK!>

Man, a 2mph bump can sure jolt you.  And worse, I had a suspicion it was there.  Arghh.  Yes, and there are other fellows in their trucks waiting to get in and out of this stupid parking configuration.  I had major ego-pain, but managed to start over, and creep out.  My wife was super-supportive, but like I said, major ego-pain.

Turns out the Av has enough plastic body cladding even on the bumper to weather this kind of stupidity, so I got out without even a mark.  But I'm now much more keen when I use "R".

I wasn't ready for the granny "beep-beep-beep" mode, but dang--that tailgate is high!  Maybe it's a good idea...
