4L60E transmission slip

Would appreciate anyone's opinion if I have to take it to the stealer or not.

The other day, I had to quickly shift out of D, go to R and hit the gas to get out of the way of some stupid@$#*. Instead of the expected firm shift to reverse, the engine RPMs flared up and the truck was lazy backing up.

The transmission behaves normally otherwise.

My question is this- did the computer deliberately enage the clutches softly to prevent damage (because my RPMs were off idle), or do I have a problem? I don't normally drive this way, so I don't want to tempt fate by trying it again.

I know the computer on the weak transmission on my Dodge Caravan will not allow a shift if the RPMs are high enough to cause damage, so that is my thought here.

Thanks

There is a delay when shifting from drive to reverse. If you mash the gas before it goes into reverse, it will bang in. It's a GM 4l60e condition. I know installing a transgo shift kit will solve this problem.

$110.00 thru Sumitt racing. The technical term for it is delayed reverse engagement.
