2000km Avalanche 2500 Report

Ok, so I have slowed down enough to actually get back here for a report to those who are interested.

Hmm, how best to sum up my impressions  of the 2500 Avalanche.....

DANG !!!!!!!!!!!! (<-- hey, that ain't what I typed!!) :0

I am completely blown away by this truck.  It is sooooo sweet, the power, the ride, the utility, the can't-chisel-it-off-my-face smile, the everything!!  I can't knock a thing about this truck.  It has to be the first truck to actually live up to my expectations.

Ride - I was worried that the ride would be stiffer than that of my 99 K1500 Suburban.  This rig has the Sub's ride beat all to hell.  Smooth, really well connected to the ground, and quiet.  I don't think I will really notice much difference when the BFG 265's go on.

Power - The 8.1 / 4.10's deliver, steady, raw, overwhelming power.  It doesn't throw you back in the seat, more like a giant hand comes down and presses you into the seats, and it doesn't let up until your right foot does.  Smooooooth acceleration, never experienced a vehicle near this smooth.

Interior comfort - Everyone seems happy in thier assigned places, and the seats (full feature leather 6 way's) are easier on my back than any I have had before.

Quality - No complaints.  Had a headlight replaced due to a broken screw mount, and am a little disapointed that GM has decided to only auto dim the drivers ext. mirror, (sub had both outside mirrors dim), but really a minor point.

Uniqueness - the only real drawback at this point.  I am going to have to start charging hourly for 'show-and-tells', first couple were fun, but it's getting a little monotonous now.

:P

Accessories - Still waiting for more accessories to be released, in particular Tube Steps and Outland Sport bumper guard.  Ventvisors, bugflector, and mud flaps are on, and one of these days, I will get my two-way radio and electronics on board, but it is a complete redesign, so it will take a while.

I have done a great deal of in town, and one highway trip, with that being a combo of high mountain and canyon running.  The performance and operation of the truck was great.  Everything I had hoped for.  Miliage has been 10-12 in town, and 15-16 on the twisty mountain highways.  Bear in mind that this is imperial gallons, and they are equal to 1.2 american gallons.

Well, that has wet my appatiete, like talking food to a hungry man.  Me thinks I need to go for another drive somewhere, anywhere, wonder what the special is at the autoparts shop today....

See Ya Later!!!!!!!!!!!

VVVVVVVRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!  :)  :D

Great response about your "big block" Av...  Your fuel milage sounds about the same as a 2500HD (not too bad).  What do plan on doing with all that power Scott???  Trailer towing???

Hey Shaners

Yes, the practicle justification for all the power is towing.  I have 2 6500lb+ Cadillac Professional Cars to tow about, and am considering a 30(ish) foot Travel Trailer to stomp about the continent in.

Amazing, that is the color/rating that I'm looking for.  I test drove a red av 2500 on saturday and I would agree with you wholeheartedly.  The rig is very smooth and stable.  I felt a lot higher that my 99 tahoe.  The new shape of the hood is very slanted and aerodynamic.  My two year old son was in the back with me.  When I asked him if he liked the truck, he said "YEP"!  It is amazing how they can pack 496 cubic inches under that hood.  10-13 mpg american may not be too bad for such a large engine with 4:10 gears.  Did you notice if the overdrive helped on the highway?  Earlier I read that some people were having trouble with the hood closing.  the one i test drove had no problem, just a short drop.

Anyway, congrats on your new 2500.  The graphite leather is killer too.

thanks for the update
