Should I get a Rhino liner?

Hi everybody

Just got a coupon for $100 off the rhino liner. Just wondering how many of you do have the rhino liner and your experience with them. Do they still scratch up your bed to spray on the rhino liner? And how long does it take?

They will scuff sand the bed paint so the spray in liner will adhere. That goes for all spray in liners. But it's not as bad as you think. The spray in liners are a heavy paint and will protect the bed of your truck from corrosion.

My last truck I bought used and it already had the Rhino installed. As far as installation goes I cannot say as someone else owned the truck when the install was done. My only way to compare was to a Speedliner that was in another truck I had owned. As many on this board have said the Rhino seemed a little more rubbery. Items did not slide around on the Rhino as much as with the Speedliner. Also, some have said the Rhino tends to fade with time, and honestly when I traded the truck the liner was getting a little dull. I'm planning on having another spray in done in the next few weeks on my 04. All things being the same (price in my area is the same) I'm going with the Line-x this time. But for an extra $100 I'd be hard pressed to say no to the Rhino. If it isn't the best, it certainly isn't a bad product either.

I compared the Rhino with the Linex, and was impressed with the Linex. The Rhino is a great product, and is a high quality liner, but I didnt like the rubber feeling the Rhino had. Makes sliding material in and out a little difficult. The Linex was installed in about 2 hours, and the shop did an excellent job. I opted for over the rail, but be careful since some tonneau covers may not fit if the liner is sprayed on thick at the rails. But a $100 coupon may have changed my mind! The Linex was just over $400 for my Sierra standard bed, over the rails.

I have a rhino. Haven't noticed any fading yet (8 months) but i have noticed some in older applications. Rhino's used to start out as a flat or dull finish. The one i have now is a glossier finish and seems to be staying that way (as long as its clean enough to see it anyways).

My uncle has a line-x that has some fading too though. So I think it's normal to expect a little fading to anything that's constantly exposed to the elements like that.

You might be able to describe it as a little rubbery, but it keeps stuff from sliding around, which I like. It's plenty tough for my purposes, i'm not going to be throwing sharp pieces of metal in it or anything (which i would guess might scar any kind of liner).

I'm happy with my Rhino, and I'd say go for it, especially for the $100 discount.

I had Rhino-lining put in my '04. I absolutely love it. Installation took about 4 hours. It was about $360-$380 for a 6-1/2' bed - no over the rails. I also had them spray Rhino-liner inside my truck toolbox (for an extra $50). Very nice! Tools and stuff don't slide around.

If you can, try to find an installer who has been doing it for a few years (whether it is Rhino or some other product). And make sure they use wire-masking tape, it makes for a nice, clean edge. I have seen some installs where all the edges are trimmed with a razor knife - not good for the trucks finish - imho.

Something else that I learned; you can ask for different finishes of Rhino-liner. The most common finish is 'Course', for that bumpy cottage-cheese look. I opted for a more 'Intermediate' finish, but you can get a reletively 'Smooth' finish also, if it is what you want.

I have a Rhino lining with a tonneau cover over it most of the time. It's great! Things don't slide around when you don't want them to. If you do want to slide things in and out, I would suggest a 1/4" piece of luan cut for the length of the bed. It won't move, but you will be able to slide large items. That way you get the best of both worlds. I wish I had a $100 off coupon when I got mine done. Ziebart did my 8' bed for about $350.

I've had two trucks with Line-X and am very pleased with their product and application. A co-worker has a Rhino liner and it is a very "goopy" application. Her tie-down loops look like they're covered in black cottage cheese whereas my Line-X application is very fine-grained and crisp looking.

IMHO, it depends on your application. I have had both. The Rhino Liner is thicker and tends to be more slide resistant. If it is left in the sun, it will fade fast. The Rhino seems to absorb the hard bangs better because of the granier type material. Linex, on the other hand, looks better. I don't know if they clearcoat it or what, but it seems to be fade resistant and have a better sheen. It is definately not as thick.

This is the way I look at it:

If your purely construction/landscaping etc., and throwing tools, rocks, and lumber in the bed everyday, I would say Rhino Liner.

If your just the everyday pickup use owner(occasional woodhauling, fourwheelers, etc.), I would go with the Linex.

This is just my opinion. I don't want to get flamed here.

Anyone ever get a extreme liner? Also now looking at Vortex Sprayed on liner. Got a quote from Rhino linings and it was $390, that was with the $100 gift certificate.

I put a rhino in over the rails on my 04 and Love it, and to the fade factor I have a Tonneau on am not too concerned. Rhino does have a spray to treat or "freshen the gloss look" if you are so inclined. Line-x is thinner and dries fast so I believe it's done drying in less than 2 hours, rhino is thick and rubbery and takes about 6 hours to dry. The dealer said not to use it hard for 24 hours. You probably will be happy with either as long as you find a good dealer. Ask to see their work (they had a scrap book of different applications and many previous jobs). I requested extra thick and over the rails and it was $525. I would/will do it again if I ever buy another truck. Good Luck.

My 2000 Sierra has had a Rhino liner since new and is great. Have one gouge from something sharp a couple years ago on the tailgate. I use amour-all to keep it looking sharp. Have a plastic insert in another pickup but does not fit or look good at all.

I got Line-X done yesterday. They did a fantastic job, no scratches on the back of the truck, and a very clean install. They gave me 25 dollar off coupons(like 10 of

them), but I didn't really go over them to see if they were only good at

the place that did mine, or nationally.
