Oil pressure sending unit

Ok first I tried the Classic threads. Not much response there so I thought I'd try here.

I have a 98 1500 2WD with a 5.7L I am looking for the location of the stock oil pressure sending unit. The book I have says it's above the oil filter but when I looked there is no sending unit. I see a plug and the two lines going to the oil cooler. The problem is my oil pressure guage has been acting erratically and I'd like to verify my oil pressure before I start throwing parts at it. The book told me I can hook a direct reading guage in the port where the stock sending unit is to verify mechanically the oil pressure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at the back of the intake manifold, just to the left (driver’s side) of the distributor? I think that is where it may be...........

Mine on my '93 5.7 is right behind the distributor. Don't know if your year still had them. My '03 does not. I bought my old trusty '93 in August of '92. I am on my THIRD oil pressure sending unit. First was under warranty. Last one was about 3 years ago. Same dealership on all units. I am at 167,000 miles. Must be a design defect. All fixes have been under $100. IMPOSSIBLE to do without special socket and a 2 to 3 jointed wrist. Let Chevy replace it.
