Magnaflow Stainless Steel Tip discoloration?

Recommended Posts

Any of you have your magnaflow tips discolor after working your truck hard? A buddy of mine has this happen on his F@rd and I thought it was just a fluke but after pulling a trailer this weekend and working my truck harder than normal driving, mine is turning colors too. It is yellowing? I have had IMCO stainless tips before and none of them have done it. Just curious.....

My tip discolors after driving through the rain but it is only surface grime. It almost always returns to normal with just a wash and easily brightens up with polish. I wouldn't be too concerned.

Stainless steel does that when it gets hot.  It can be polished off, same thing happens when welding on stainless.

I have also hear of using a clean cotton rag with white vinegar on it to remove the stains. It is basically oxidation.

OK I know this is for cookware but..... :banghead:

How To clean and care for your stainless steel cookware.

Before first-time use, wash in hot soapy water to remove manufacturing oils and polishing compounds. Wash by hand in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher. You may add ¼ cup of vinegar to the hot water.

Use dishcloth, sponge, nylon net or plastic pad. After washing, rinse thoroughly with hot water and dry cookware to prevent water spotting.

Golden brown or blue heating stains may occur from time to time. These usually result from over heating. Be very careful that you don’t use too much heat if you want to maintain the beauty of your cookware.

Remember stainless steel products are for a lifetime. If you want to remove unattractive stains you must use the following cleansers, kleen king, steel brite, cameo-copper or stainless steel cleaner, copper brite, bon ami, or any non abrasive cleaner.

Do not use a cleaner that contains chlorine bleach. You may purchase stainless steel cleansers at your local supermarket. If you have further questions please contact our company.

To remove tough stains wet the utensil, do not use too much water, apply stainless steel non-abrasive cleaner, wait 5 minutes and remove stain with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Repeat if necessary. After using the stainless steel cleanser use ultra Palmolive soap to add shine to the cookware. A combination of stainless steel cleaner and dishwashing soap will do the trick.

Do not allow salty or acidic foods to remain on the cookware for long periods of time. To remove burned-on foods, briefly soak and wash in warm water. Use stainless steel cleanser and nylon scouring pad on difficult stains.

Wash soon after using. Do not leave soaking for long periods of time. "Heat tint" is a rainbow-like discoloration that may be caused by high heat. Remove with stainless steel cleanser.

If you have polished tips I wouldn't use anything like a scourig pad!!!!!
