Cleaning Gas Tank?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hey guys..

I'd like to maybe clean my gas tank. I think there maybe crud at the bottom of the tank that is making its way in to the fuel lines and causing the truck to run rough. I'm gonna tune it up here pretty soon, but I'm afraid that a tune up won't do it. I think plugs and wires maybe not it, becasue it doesn't run rough all the time. Just a lot of it.

Any ideas on how to tackle this?

If you remove the tank completely, you can removed sender unit /fuel pump access hatch and those parts and pressure wash (at a hand car wash) or power steam clean inside of tank. When you are done and have rinsed the tank, rinse the inside again by swishing around a few cans of gasoline anitfreeze (which is alchol) which will absorb water and rinse it out and the alchol that is left (if any) can mix with gas. Just to be safe to you could through in a can or two of drygas/antifreeze for first tank to grab any water than might still be in there.
