power steering leak

Recommended Posts

My 97 Suburban K1500 with the 5.7 vortec is leaking power steering fluid. I just can't seem to see where from. It looks like the pressure hose is leaking and it probably is. Anybody ever replace one? I have done it on my old 82 Chev pickup, but on the Burb I can't even see where the hose screws into the pump. Looks like it might be easiest to remove the pump (which sucks, cause I don't have a puller for the pulley) and go from there. Anybody have any tips?

:D:cheers:

Yeah its probably coming from the pressure line, it will only leak out when you're driving and the system is under pressure. I had to do the same repair. The line connects in the back of the power steering pump. Its not too hard to reach actually, but what makes it a pain in the butt is the stiffness of the new hose and its reluctance to bend the way you need it to in order to get the threads started in the fitting. It took me a while but once I got the theads started it was a breeze.
