New Truck

Okay guys....my 94' stepside and I could be parting ways...kind of an interesting story..more on that later.

I've found a 1999 Silverado and I'm not really sure about what kind of deal I'm getting. The truck is a single cab fleetside with 51,745 miles. It is pewter on gray and its a Silverado...meaning its not an LS. The truck is a 4.3L V6 with an automatic. My current truck is a 4.3L TBI..how different are these motors? Power difference? Price is $9500.

I also found a 2000 SWB single cab with one of the V8s (he didn't know which one). This truck is identical to the one above except maybe an LS (again..he didn't know) with 58000 miles. This truck is going for $9188.

What kinda buys do these sound like? The V8 possible LS is obviously a better buy, but I kinda figure for 9188 its probably a silverado with the 4.8.

What is the HP numbers for a 00' 4.8 and a 99' 4.3L? I wanna say 285 and 200?

Thanks...

I like to use these two when looking at used cars:

www.kbb.com

and

www.nada.com

Kelly Blue Book seems to be the one most dealers are leaning towards lately.

After driving a reg. cab silverado with a 4.3L and one with a 4.8L, the difference is a pretty big one in my opinion. The 4.3L has about the same low end as the 4.8L, but the 4.8's midrange and upper RPM power is a lot stronger.

Good luck!

First of all, my step-father owns a 99 4wd 1500 Ext. cab with the 4.3L 5-Speed. I love the truck and actually wanted to buy its 05' equivalent but you cant get a 4wd ext cab manual tranny. The thing runs, and runs good. When he first got it, I drove it nearly every day and anyone I took some where couldn't believe that it had a V6 in it. I, however, wouldn't ever buy a 4.3L in a full size with an automatic.

Its personal preference but the ones I have been in seem to work way too hard.

2nd.. the tbi and SCFI (whatever) motors have the same reliability as the TBIs but the newer 4.3s run much better than the TBI counter parts. I know, I just sold my TBI 4.3L s10 and as I said my stepfather has a 99 4.3L.

The late 90s s10s that have the 4.3L autos dont impress me much, my roommate has one and I blame it on the auto's shiftpoints and soft shift.... once again.. not great for a fullsize (auto that is). Mind you, it still runs good.. just not as good as the 4.3's with the 5speeds.

As for the 4.8, great motor.. yes i did see the one got sold. But they are pretty impressive motors but I PERSONALLY wouldn't get one in an auto if its 4wd... just a personal preference.

FYI: I ended up gettin an 05' 5.3 ext cab 4wd. for slightly double what your looking at
