Help a newbie light dweeb!

Okay, all this talk of amber DRLs, fog lamps which aren't, and other lighting related threads, maybe it's time I get a clue with what all these lights are on my Avalanche.  I know I should turn them all on one-by-one and see what they do, but I tried that once, and so much of it is automatic, I couldn't get the ones on I wanted.  And I still don't know what lights I should be thinking about when I read "I replaced such-and-such light with bulb so-and-so, and it's so cool..."

So, behold:

Lamp #3 is really only the amber lense from lamp #4 (there is no bulb), but still let me know what this is considered.  And for those not familiar with this thing, there is a 7th lamp on the inside of lamp #6--you just can't see the number very well.

Thanks for your help--I'm a truck newbie as I've said before, but this light arrangement just goes on and on...  And before someone suggests (even politely) to RTFM or similar, I have been through the entire thing and saw no good diagram of what all this wattage does.

Then, if you want to be a real pal, tell me what you think are good upgrades/changes for each position if there is relevant info available.

Thanks a lot folks--excellent forum--this is how I learn about such things!  Thanks for your patience too!

I believe that the following is the setup:

1: marker/turn signal

2: marker/turn signal

3: useless - looks like they just needed something there

4: low beams - 9006 - replace with PIAA ultrabrights or HID II

5: high beams - 9011 - new bulb, havent a clue

6: foglights - nothing in the book - havent taken it apart yet

7: DRL - replace with 4157NALL - looks better - last longer

Suggest kit to keep lows on with high beam from R&D :)
