Well I am getting I get 17-18 on the hwy, and 13 to 15 in the city with my Hemi Ram. But that is in a 1500. From the Dodge forums that I go to also, they get just 1 or 2 mpg less than I do in a 2500. A couple of guys with mods, get better than I do....CAI, exhaust...etc.

My '03 F250 V10 gets between 11mpg & 12mpg for day to day mixed driving 50/50 city highway. A little over 14mpg for all highway trips at 65/70mph. Keeping it in OD 100% of the time on the highway at speeds up to 75mph unloaded is not a problem at all even on the longest hills around here but the best mileage seems to be between 60/65 mph.

Highway towing 4000-7000lbs 65mph it drops to around 10mpg. BTW-the truck weighs 6800/6900lbs and has a 3.73 axle.

Wife's F150 Crew 5.4L gets 15/16 highway and 13/14 mixed city/highway driving. It weighs 5600lbs and has a 3.73 axle but with 18" wheels. We just put a hard tonneau on it so hopefully she'll get an improvement with that.

This looks like a good thread. Good to see what everybody else out there is getting mileage-wise!

I registered on some Dodge and Ford sites and asked the same question. It's funny that we all say about the same things...

GM guys say they are getting better MPG than Ford and Dodge, and vice versa.

I figure mileage every time I fill up and try to report my MPG accurately on boards like this. From what I can tell, all three brands are very close. You might get a 1-2 MPG difference here and there, but for the most part they are in the same ballpark.

I've heard the Hemi's are gas-hogs, but have never driven one long enough to calculate. I think the best judges in this arena are those who own two (or more) trucks and are able compare them side by side with the same driving style.

That said, I'm really happy my 8.1/cc is getting above 10 MPG city and a high of 15 highway.

That should be expected. This is similar to most other classes of vehicle too (mid-size cars, compacts, etc.).

That's what I think too. Different drivers / styles / conditions make a lot of difference to the final numbers people see, even with otherwise identical vehicles. IMO this is also the real cause of all the uproar over EPA ratings. I don't think the ratings are really that far off what is possible. My own experience is that I can easily at least match the EPAs numbers, and usually exceed them by 1 or 2 mpg, regardless of what vehicle I drive. But different people will see different results.

The real problem isn't how accurate they really are, because I think that they're misused. The ratings are meant to allow comparison between different vehicles to show a higher / lower average economy rather than stating that you WILL get XX mpg with a certain vehicle. Much like the efficiency labels you find on most large home appliances nowadays (saying something like a typical household will spend $XXX dollars a year at $.XX per kilowatt hour rates..).

I didn't think i was getting that bad mpg since i drive 5 1/2 miles one way to work and back, doesn't really give it that much time to fully warm up in the winter, i know my 1998 1500 ext. cab chevy was always gettin around 15-16 mpg and i had a 2000 Ford f150 ext. cab got around the same, the chevy had the 350 and the ford had the 302, sorry i still go by the old motors ! and thought with the 4.10 rear in the GMC and the 6.0 i would be lucky to get 12 but seems to be at 14 all the time, so let's hear from some more people ! thanks ! :D

My Ford F350 with the Power Choke is getting an avarage 14.9 mpg. It also runs a 4" lift and 35's that play a huge role on the crappy mpg's from this engine.

I just put a cover on my truck a little over a month ago, and my mileage right now seems to be high 18's to low 19's (1/2 ton Z71 EC SB 5.3l 3.73). I can't really say whether it's because of the warmup or because of the tonneau though. It isn't higher than I've seen before but it's much more consistent (17's before at times).

I also haven't noticed any real difference between gas grades either- I ran 3 tanks of 93 right after putting the cover on and am on my third tank of 87 (for those that have read my past posts on this- this is a correction from before. Sam's Club in my area doesn't have 89 for low, it's 87). My overall average for the 93 was a bit lower than I've seen for the 87 so far, but that's probably got more to do with windy rainy weather than the gas. Both grades had bests (so far, remember- I haven't finished the 3rd tank of 87 yet) of mid-19's, but the 93 had a tank in the low 18's (wider spread over the 3 tanks than I'm observing from the 87).

I'm going to repeat the test with the local Shell station once I finish out this tank to see if the name brand station thing makes a difference..
