What is best way to get power to the trailer

Recommended Posts

On my 2000 GMC the trailer wiring was installed, along with brake controler.

One thing I do not like about this is the power to the trailer, which is connected to the trailer battery. When the trailer is connected to the truck, both batteries are in parelell, and if I use trailer battery I am also draining the trucks battery as well, unless I unplug the trailer. I would like to have a relay, so the truck battery is connected to the trailer battery only when the truck is running. Any solution or ideas on that?

I would like to have realy nice and neet solution, no I not interested in isolating diodes.

Install one of these between your truck's battery and the trailer feed wire. the other two wires will go to ground and an ignition (switched) hot wire. That way the trailer feed will only be connected while the ignition is on.
