How to listen to stereo with doors open?

Okay, here's a dumb question. The other day I was unloading some dirt from the back of my truck and I wanted to listen to the stereo with the door open while I was working. But you have to have the key in to turn the ignition to Accessory. I couldn't figure out how to make that dumb chime sound stop. How do you do this?

Thanks very much. My truck is a 2002 Silverado.

You can add a switch. If the door chime stops when you flip the latch down it has a sensor like my F150 work truck.

I put a swtich in the door panel. When i want it open, I flip the switch and the door thinks its closed. Flip the swith again and it's back to normal function.

Not sure about 02 but on my 04 you can push and hold the #6 preset button on your radio, it will beep and the chime will turn off until you close the door and it will reset

the switch is in the latch of the door. have to slide the latch closed with the door open. make sure to pull the handle before you try to close it.

It works, it works! Thanks again, I would never have figured this out. I really appreciate everyone's expertise.

One additional note for anybody considering replacing their factory radio with an aftermarket radio:

The Metra GMRC-02 (and probably also the GMRC-01) only run the chimes for about 10 seconds, and then quit. Your door can stay open after that, and no chimes, just radio.

Other aftermarket radio adaptors (to adapt the aftermarket radio to the GM data bus) might also have a "time out".

On my '00, there's a little black plastic box underneath the dash on the driver's side. There's a few snap-in wire connections on the box, undo them, and then slide the box out(it's pretty small). You can then open the box(it snaps together), and there's a circuit board inside with a small round speaker on it. You can easily take a small screwdriver and pop the speaker off the board, put everything back together, and you're set. No more chimes. The whole thing took me less than 30 minutes. I don't know if this works on an '02 though.
