285's with no cutting/torsion bar adjustments?

Recommended Posts

I would like to add 285's with 8" or 8.5" after market wheels. Has anyone found a wheel, other than stock, that works without having to do ANY trimming or torsion bar adjustments?

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD CC, Standard Box, 4X4 Duramax.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it'll happen without a little lift in front.

Are you dead-set against cranking the bars ?? It doesn't effect ride NEARLY as bad as some would have you believe

No way. If you go with rims other than stock width (8" or 8-1/2") your going to have to crank and trim. My wheels are 8" with the stock offset and with the 285's they rub on the back, inside of the fender well, as well as the lower valance and front, inner fender well. I had to do some tying back of the fender well, trimming of the lower valance, and my T-bars are up 2". It rides great and the trimming is almost unnoticable. Take a look. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Your truck looks great! Mine is Carbon Metallic as well and I would love to get mine to look more like yours.

Did you change your shocks too? What type/model of chrome wheels do you run?

I have not changed the shocks yet. I'm waiting for one, or both of them to overextend and make a bang. On my previous truck (99 Z71) I cranked the bars 2 inches and blew a shock the next day. I then replaced them with Rancho RS9000's (I think, it was awhile ago) for a 3 inch lift. They worked fine. I have a few friends that have HD's with thier T-bars cranked 2 inches and they are still running the stock shocks without any problems. I don't think there is a company that makes a shock that is for only 2 inches of lift for these trucks, but I may be wrong. You may want to check into it. If you go less than 2 inches you should be safe with the stockers though.

As for my wheels. The brand is "GEAR". I can't remember the style or model. I like them because they are chrome plated aluminum and the center cap actually threads on. When I go hunting or 4-wheeling, I just spin them off so I don't brake one off on a log or a rut.
