Driveline clunk & nickel plated slip yoke TSB fix

Recommended Posts

Folks-

My '01 Silverado just started making npoise with what I am pretty sure is the dreaded driveline clunk.  There is a TSB out that states the fix is a nickel plated driveline yoke, not a fluid change.  From another recent post I understand that the yokes may be backordered at the dealerships.  Has anyone gotten one installed under warranty yet, and if so, did it work?  Thanks.

When does the "clunk" occur?  While you're moving or accelerating or starting out from a stop light etc?

The "clunk" in my situation occurred more when taking off, or accelerating after a turn.  As soon as the part comes in at the dealership i'll let you guys know if it works out.

My clunk is most apparent when accelerating from a dead stop when the engine/transmission are cold.  When everything is fully warmed up, the clunk dissipates.  when everything is cold, if I really feather the throttle and barely inch the truck into forward motion I can defeat the clunk, but this just isn't practical for everyday driving.  I'm looking forward to hear how the updated slip yoke works.

I just got my truck back, dropped it off this morning for the slip yoke to be installed.  All I can say is if you have the problem, get it fixed, my truck is 110% better, no more clunk, response seems better when accelerating out of a turn.  To me the truck just feels solid again, I couldn't be happier about it.  I haven't gotten underneath yet to see i I notice anything different, not sure I would anyway.  If something changes I'll post it, but so far things are good.
