1999 K1500 Suburban Drivetrain Rattle

Hi, my 1999 Suburban K1500 w/3.43 gears has a tin canny rattle sound in the drivetrain. I really hear it when im driving slow and slowing down for a stoplight/sign and windows are down. The sound is speed dependant. Can someone help? What could it be?

Thanks

Wow a 4x4 burb with 3.42s, or is that 3.73??

Could be one of the cats has broken down inside or maybe you have a loose exhuast heat shield.

Yeah 3.42's...the rattle is consistant when the wheels are turning. Nothing at idle so i dont think its a heat shield but rather drivetrain related. What are the symptoms of a u joint going bad?

Sounds like a timing chain to me. Dodge 3.9l are notorious for timing chain clatter exactly as you described.

Do the wheels have to be turning to hear the noise or can you produce the noise by just revving the engine? I had a loud rattling noise on my 03 Suburban with 6.0 and it turned out to be the A/C compressor going south. Good luck.

No only when the wheels are turning or when the driveshaft is turning. Sound does not happend while stopped idling or revving the engine
