Washer Fluid Tank Leak

Recommended Posts

Earlier this week I had a dead battery, popped the hood and stated checking for loose/dirty cable and the whole + cable was broken off with part of the battery housing. Have no idea what caused this, but changed the battery and washed the tray etc. since it appears it had been leaking acid for a while. Yesterday I noticed that all my washer fluid was gone - refilled tank and watched it start dripping out from wheel well.

Do you think the acid from the battery ate a hole in the washer tank?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

My 01's washer tank just started leaking 3 months ago, it doesn't entirely leak out; but, leaks enough to make a mess of the garage floor and then throw a "Low Washer Level" indicator ... The dried up fluid on the garage floor looks rusty and white, I thought the battery was leaking too just like the one in my 00 Grand Prix did which also left rusty stains on the concrete; but, so far I can't see anything wrong with the battery.

my 2001 yukon has leaked in two places. The washer pump motor which is replacable from underneath in the front. Standard part for about 20 bucks made by one of the windshield wiper companies. I forget which one.

The second place is the hose from the washer pump to the wipers will chaff down behind the battery. I take the battery and the battery tray out, cut the hose and patch the line with a rubber fuel line type of hose.

My battery has leaked acid on the washer tank and so far no holes.

I think the line from the pump to the wipers is the most common leak. Run your washers and see if fluid leaks from all around the washer tank.

Good luck

Hello,

I had this happen to my 01 Tahoe. It turned out the battery location is the problem. Mine had corroded and actually had the terminal come out of the battery. It then leaked acid wich goes right down onto the washer pump motor on the tank.

My tank and washer pump motor were replaced under my 3/36 warranty. i don't think the battery acid would do anything to the tank. It willl however eat that pump for lunch.

Try inspecting the pump and you will probably find a corroded mess.

Good luck, Eric
