Raise seat height?

Recommended Posts

I have seen kits on ebay to raise the seat of the Silverado and Sierra. This is only for manual seats and not power. Apparently the manual seats sit an inch and half lower than a power seat at full height. Has anyone bought these and tried them? And if so, what are they like. The seats do feel somewhat low but its liveable. I remember road testing a truck with power seats and Im sure that felt a bit higher than I sit now in my manual one.

Thoughts?

Now that this has come up it all makes sense to me...my brother had a 2000 GMC that had manual seats and I did seam to sit much lower in that cab than I do in my current truck that has power seats.

I do agree with the above posts though - I would not mess with how the seats are installed in the truck. I would not want to find out how the ebay kit performs in a wreck!

I have them installed on my truck. I am 5'10" tall and like the added height it provides. If you are 6'2' or taller, I would not recommend them as your head will probably be in the roof.

As for the safety aspect of the kit. All grade 8 hardware of the kit I got. Anyway, have you looked at how your seats are in by the factory? The bolt is not to the frame, but welded to the cab. On my old S-10, I broke one of the seat bolts off with a pair of channel locks.

I am not an engineer, and this will probably lead to a physics discussion with shear force and torque displacement on the solid metal floor looking at the other posts on this thread.

Bottom line is I like them and I do not fear a safety problem if I should be involved in an accident. If I hit hard enough to break the seats loose, I was probably doing something I should not have been doing.

Hope all m spelling and grammar is correct. :chevy:

I remember Grandma was looking for a car back in 91 when Saturn first started. Well she's fairly short and had difficulty getting the steering wheel out of her line of sight whether it was tilted or not. The salesman actually had the balls to say that they'd buy her a pillow.

I'm interested in this idea too (not necessarily the eBay kit, but something). Any ideas for spacers or ways to increase the height - all non-"sit on a phonebook" comments welcome.

...for NBS

thanks,

Kurt

this thread is 3 years old.

but one thing i can think of that would still be strong is the washer idea.

the bolts are metric but take one out and get one that is about a inch longer and stack the washers and you get some more height.

or you get some sold round bar and cut it in 1" increments and drill a hole in the center?

I would think that a thick walled bushing or spacer with longer bolts would be the best solution. Or, use a stack of hardened (grade 8) washers with grade 8 replacement bolts. I do not know if this is the case with the '07 + trucks, but '06s have the seat belts anchored to the seat itself, so if the seat comes out of its floor mounts, the seatbelt will do nothing for you.

I do not see why you could not raise a power seat as well as a manually operated one.
