New 2006+ Duramax

I went a little crazy last night and bought a brand-new 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4X4 Crew Cab Short Box LT3 Silverado in Graystone Metallic with Dark Charcoal leather. The engine is the new Third-Generation Duramax (LBZ) with 360 HP and 650 pounds of torque. The transmission is the Allison 6-Speed.

I'm awfully pleased and surprised that the ride is much smoother than my 2003 Silverado Z-71. Maybe it is a personal perception, but I am loving this truck. We do some trailering and the Z-71 was marginal; on the other hand, the DMax is overkill. I can surely live with the overkill and enjoy the added safety margin.

I took it down for Line-X this morning and the Fold-A-Cover tonneau will go on this afternoon. No photos yet. SOON.

Thanks for sharing my happiness.

Man, I wish I could afford to go a little crazy myself. It sure sounds like a sweet truck, but the rules around here are that the truck doesn't exist if there aren't any pics! :dupe:

Congrats!!!! :D:dupe:

You just bought my dream truck! I am only 22 and still in college so I have a few years yet but I have been wanting a Duramax eversince I used my uncles for a whole day! There is absolutey nothing that compares in my opinion! When I got back into my truck I just about broke down and started crying haha!

Can't wait for the pics!

Friends,

I've been telling myself for many years that I truly didn't "need" the Duramax. But I finally just had to do the deed.

I'm 63 years old. The 2007 Silverados, totally redesigned Silverados, will be released soon. The "deals" on the new ones will be nonexistant and I kind of hesitate to buy a new body style in the first year of production.

The 6.0 liter engine is a slug in towing, unless you chip it and do other heroics. The 8.1 liter engine is not on at any dealers in our area. This leaves me with the Duramax/Allison and a time-proven body style.

If I waited for the new body style, for the 6.0 High Output and for all of the kinks to be worked out of the new body style, I'd be 65 or 66 years old.

Heck, do it now; LT3 and all. I'm poorer (paid cash) but the deed is done and I'm glad I did it.

Is Photobucket OK on this forum for pictures?

Congratulations on the new truck! I wish I had bought one of those! I towed my boat for the first time with my '06 Z71 and I wish I had more power and torque! But I did not want to spend another $ 10k, so I have to live with this one for a while.

BTW, mine is a graystone metallic color too - I love that color!

I'm with you there. I like for them to work out the kinks before I buy.

That should be fine. Link away! :dupe:

PM26,

I live in Oregon and we see a lot of Silver Birch, but very rarely see a Graystone Metallic. Maybe dealers elsewhere order them by the dozen...just not here. Yeah, I absolutely love the color.

It should be as easy to keep clean-looking as my 2003 Silverado Z-71 in Pewter and I kinda like the idea of it being uncommon locally.

Hey Guys,

I got my DMax Line-Xed yesterday and got the Fold-A-Cover tonneau swithched-out. The guys did a SUPER job of installing the F-A-C. Today, she gets running boards (assist steps) and prolly a trailer brake (the great one, whose name escapes me right not; starts with T and it is the Protege model).

Anyway, here is the first photo, showing Line-X, the Fold-A-Cover tonneau and no side assist steps.

Hey, I told you she was a pretty lass. :dupe:

Trailer brake controller: Tekonsha Prodigy

The drawtite Intella-Stop Ultra is the same thing, but seems to run at the same price, so I would get the prodigy if available.
