2007 Tahoe performance

Recommended Posts

Posted

I recently purchased a 2007 Tahoe with the 5.3 Litre. It is the LTZ model. I am very disappointed with the engine performance. It is a definite dog! Any suggestions how I can reasonably bump horsepower and thus performance?

Thanks

First off,Welcome to the site :banghead:

Secondly,I work at a GM dealer and I've had the chance to drive a few new '07 Tahoe's,I cannot see what you mean when you say there a "dog",I mean the ones I drove would blow my Silverado away!! I was totally impressed with the power and torque,With 320hp/340lb.-ft. of torque I thought there was plenty of and get-up-n-go! (Of course thats just my opinion)

Of course your probably just like the rest of us....you always want more power!!!

I don't know of many performance upgrades yet,They haven't been out long enough.

I think Zoomers (See the "Preferred Vendors" list on the left) has an exhaust system out and Green Filters has a Cold-Air Intake system out,But I'm not positive.

A PCM reprogrammer will "wake it up" for sure once those are out for them.

Your comments beg the questions..."why did you buy it then?" "what did you think during the test drive?"

Not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything, but it makes me wonder.

WOW! That sounds good!

I was looking over your site. Do you not offer anything for a 99 Suburban?

I hear what you are saying as I noticed the same thing when I test drove on...compared to my '04 it did feel sluggish off the line...I attribute that to the weight gain of nearly 500lbs. Unfortunatly for you it sounds like you bought off the dealer lot and didn't have a choice on rear end options...I originally ordered my '07 with 3.73 w/G80 but just did a change order this week with my dealer and opted to get the 4.10 w/G80 mainly for the purpose that you described, but also due to the fact I plan on upsizing the tires to a 33...which still puts me ahead of the game.

Putting aside that it is a 2007 with more HP and roughly the same TQ. as the 2006 I would say it feels sluggish due to it having a different tune for a SUV.

Compare a Pickup with the 5.3 and a Tahoe with the same 5.3. The pickups have a much earlier throttle tip in. Tip in is what you feel when you hammer the throttle and how fast the Fuel injection is tuned to react.

The pick-ups are much more aggressive compared to a Tahoe. I can break the tires loose on my 2002 Z71 PU but no way on my 02Z71 Tahoe.

Keep in mind that the Pickups I believe are still on a throttle cable whereas the SUV's are on a ETC (Electronic throttle control or drive by wire). ETC's can be programmed for different types of tip in modes.

The pick-ups dont have the cable. Think they went to the throttle by wire crap in 03. Really wish they still had the cable.....much better.

We don't make a bolt on for a 99 but we do have the same muffler and tip you could adapt to your Suburban.. Any muffler shop using a pre-fabbed mandrel 3" tail pipe and our componants can get you the sound and performance your looking for. You'll need Our Long Barrel muffler and a Cannon Tip. $429 for both pieces. Give me a call if your interested,... Ron 949-916-3240

Michigan2500 HD.

I was not sure if the PU were on the drive by wire yet. I have an 02PU and 02Tahoe and the PU is on a cable and the Tahoe is a DBW.

I too prefer the feel and response of the cable. It does make a difference. The DBW pedals have no feel to them and a very short stroke and take some getting used to.

Not a DBW fan at all.

These are trucks, not sports cars. They are built to haul things, not be quick at 0-60 MPH or the Quarter Mile. They are built for torque, not speed. It has torque managment so that you won't be spinning the tires and snapping your head back on hard accelerations. 320 HP is alot of power, it's going to be managed by the computer.

Trade it in for an '06 model with 4.10 gears.

If you think that your 07 is bad wait down the road a year or two when the MFR,s have to comply to the new fuel economy requirements. If your not old enough to remember the 70,s than brace your selfs. Its going to be slow and with gas at $2.69 a gallon today what is going to be the price this summer.
