Turn signal madness

Recommended Posts

Have a '94 Chev Silverado Z71.

- Panel lights don't turn on.

- When the right turn signal is on both the rear signal lights turns. Front signals work fine.

- When either the right or left signal lights are on and I press the brake the panel signal light stops blinking and stays on. If i remove my foot off the pedal it starts blinking again.

I checked fuses, the panel lights fuse was blown. I replaced it and the problem (all of them) is still occuring, the fuse hasn't blown anymore.

I have not replaced anything else.

Anybody got some ideas where to start looking......

Thanks,

Here is the catalog to your truck. Your gonna need to order some parts for this fix...

Turns out the problem was the wires on the trailer connector pigtail were shorting out. Mechanic was checking all the places I had started with when his friend (also a mechanic) looks at the pigtail and says 'I think I found the problem'. We took the connector off - problem fixed. All after about 5 minutes of checking.

We lucked out!

Thanks for the reply

This kind of problem can also come from two other sources:

1 - A bad ground in the rear harness can cause all kinds of weird behavior

2 - The signal switch in the column can go bad (happened on a few Mopars I owned).

The ground is easy to check--jumper a wire from the tailight to the frame and make sure that the frame-to-block wire is in good condition.

I kept a spare signal switch around to check for that problem, it was easy to plug in undeer dash without tearing apart the column to see if that was the problem.

Glad it was simple to find for you....
