HVAC Whistling

Recommended Posts

I have done a search and did not see a resolution to this topic.

I have a 00 1500 w/4.3 and 63,000 miles.

I am getting a whistling noise from under the dash on the passenger side under mid to hard acceleration.

Possibly vacuum related?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Is there some kind of a fix?

Thanks.

I've never seen that posted on this board before...sorry, no ideas for ya, dude. Does it do it under all weather conditions? Cold interior, hot interior, damp interior, etc? Heater on, defroster on, a/c on?

Weather is not a factor.

This started about 3weeks ago.

Since then it has been Dry and wet freezing,

and Dry and wet upper 80's.

Gotta love Texas Weather.........

If you remove the upper dash pad and under the ducts you push on the rubber and foam seal at the fire wall and it stops the noise, the right fix is to reposition the rubber seal mat between the fire wall and the blower box. But that takes a lot of work. A quick fix is locate the corner piece at the top. When you push on it it will stop whistling. I have been putting 2 self tapping screws with a washer on them and screwing the mat to the firewall and it has stopped the whistling, its not the correct way to fix it but it works.

Mine only whistles when I have AC in recirc mode. Read my post link. Will what you discribe fix my problem too? If so can you give more details about these areas?

Apparently what is causing the noise is the door is closing to just the right position to cause a noise. There is a law that prohibits the recric door from closing all the way. I think it has to be open 10% for carbon monoxide reasons. Many years ago in a GM hands on class they called it the fart guard. :banghead: Anyway, I did some research and one way to fix it is to drill a hole in the recric door. I would say about 1/4 inch. If that does not help maybe do one more. Only other thing you could do is block the door from closing so far. I would think that it would not take much. Maybe a small sheet metal screw in the HVAC case to block the door slightly.
