Rear end options 1500HD & 2500HD

Recommended Posts

I think the 3.73 has always been an option IF you get the 8.1 or Duramax.

As for the 6.0L HD i have never heard of a 3.73 being avalible.

I know it was standard on my 2005 which is a 1500HD with a 6.0, Now wether it was standard because it is a Quadrasteer I do not know. Anyone else?

True, 4.10 is the only gear for the 6.0L. The 8.1L or D-max the 3.73 gears are optional.

You are incorrect Sir! I have a 2005 1500HD with 3.73 in the rear. They were and are available if my truck has them

We were refering to the 2500LD and 2500HD as far as gear ratios, but yes the 1500HD came stok with the 3.73

Just one more correction, 3.73 is the only gear ratio offered on the D-Max/Allison combo, there are no other optional ratios for that setup.

also,

4.1 is best for the 6.0 for more speed and pulling power, but 3.73 is better with larger or higher torque motor. 3.73 will give better fuel economy for the larger motor that has the higher neccessary torque. so for the 6.0 you should prefer the 4.1, for the diesel or 8.1 you should prefer the 3.73.

Not to roll this again but my 99 C2500 has factory 3.73 gears, 6.0 l motor. Also my 86 gmc c2500 came from factory with 3.73 but it had a 4 speed.

I think in the NNbs trucks with the 6.0L they have the 3.73, because of the six speed trans. Also in the 3/4ton Suburbans with 6.0L they could be had with a 3.73 rear.
