Facelift on 1993 Sierra

Hey Everybody,

Newbie here and I was looking for some help with my '93 Sierra.

I will be doing a complete overhaul on the body to take car of pealing paint, rust and rotting. While I was at it I will be replacing the grille shell. Can I give it a facelift and put a 1994-1998 Sierra grille shell on it? and will the parking lights fit into factory holes? I know on a 1994-1998 the parking lights are set higher from the bumper than a 1993. I don't want to have to drille any additional holes, if it won't work with factory holes then I am not going to worry about it.

Thanks for any help.

Hey man welcome aboard. Yes, actually its quite popular to do exactly what your trying to do. Although it appears the lights sit higher, the dimensions are actually identical. Check out www.mrtaillight.com They sell a kit for about 149.99 that includes a chrome (metal not the cheap plastic that GM uses) grille and the parklamps. After that you can spend about 69.99 for OEM 94 style one piece headlights, but I would go wiht the diamond set myself.

Hope that helps =)

Its easier than you think. A friend of mine did his 88 chev w/t (sealed beam) front end into a 98 chev 1500 composite headlamp grille. he said it wasnt that hard, the only problem he ran into was the wiring. But in your case the wiring might be the same, the only difference being the new grille shell and maybe the turn signals if i'm not mistaken.

Yeah, that helps. The parking lights were my only concern. I saw in my LMC Truck catalog a slight difference in the parking lights for a 88-93 and 94-98. I wanted a stock grille shell to paint the color of the truck.

I already knew I would have to get new sidemarkers and reflectors for the new grille shell.

Thanks.

I just went to mrtaillight.com and found a conversion kit for 88-98 Sierra's and one of the parts is a 3 piece filler kit.

Does anyone know what that is supposed to fill in and if I can go without it or not? If I can't go without it, does anyone know where I can buy one separately?

AAAHHH dont buy from mrtaillight! Unless you like waiting over a month for shipping and then getting a set of headlights that arent from the same companies even, just wherever he could get them cheapest that week.

Also, the parking lights ARE NOT the same. You may be able to force pre 94 lights into the 94+ grill, but parking lights are cheap enough you could just get a new set and save yourself the hassle.

You will need for the conversion:

94+Grill shell (duh)

94+ Parking lights

94+ Marker lights

and the 3 piece filler for 94+ grill.

Yes you need the filler, the pre 94 ones wont work with the 94+ grill at all and the 94+ grill uses the lower filler to attach to the firewall.

Also the 94+ grill clips on for the most part on the bottom. I cut the clips off of mine and drilled a couple holes through the firewall and used some self threading sheetmetal screws to hold it on better. Then I did the same thing behind the lower side marker light, it makes putting the side marker on trickier but its worth it to get rid of the gap between the fender and the grill (a gap even a 2000 Tahoe z71 has from the factory).

Yeah, I don't want to buy from mrtaillight.com. I wanted to buy from LMC Truck, but they don't have a 3 piece filler kit. Do you know where I can get one besides in that kit from mrtaillight.com?

Guys, I checked out that LMC Truck. There a rip. They want over twice as much for the chrome girlle as Mr. Taillight. Even if they do take a while to ship, I'll deal with that when I have an extra $150 in my pocket. I can't emagine how much everything else costs. I am able to replace my entire front end (my grille is worn and lights are oxidizing) and rear tail light lens for about $300. Thats pretty much impossible to beat. Plus Mr. Taillights grille doesn't come with that goofy looking (IMO) chrome emblem.

actually its quite easy and especially if you got it all stripped down and ready to go. The grill matches right up. Just depending on what ever color you are painting the vehicle it will work. The mirrors on the 95 and to the new 00 style i like much better, because they are set in one place where the old "chrome" mirrors would always flap, or get nocked in the parking lot and I would look over and notice them :chevy:

Did exactly what you are doing several years ago to a 92. But you will definently need the filler. I wish I could help in the area of where to get it. Mine was changed after I had a wreck and broke my 92 grille.
