Advantages/disadvantages of the VORTEC 4800?

The 4.8 is the same block as the other small block chevy's, so their reliability is about the same. I think the 5.3 is a better choice for full size trucks though, if your looking to buy one. From the other treads that I've read about the 4.8, they don't really get any better gas mileage and they don't have the power of the larger engine. You would maybe get a 1 mpg better, but even that would depend on your driving habits.

True. My truck is a 2000 with a 4.8 and 75,000 mi. and never have had the CSK. Knock On Wood!!!

I was originally looking for a used truck with a 4.8 but after test driving one with a 5.3 my mind was quickly changed. Plenty of power and torque, not bad fuel mileage.

CSK ? I have 3 plus my personal truck and all are the same 2001, 02, 03 and my 04 all are EXT 4x4 Lt's and my older trucks are my employs work trucks and none have CSK the oldest to date has 125780 mi.
