New Truck

I am thinking about buying this truck. The truck will be used as a daily driver. The drive is half highway and half city. I also will be using the truck to pull my 19 ft boat (1900 lbs). What would my gas mileage be roughly. The dealer said he would sale me truck for $27,000 is that a good deal.

Nice truck but overkill for what you need. A 1500 could easily do the work you have mentioned. The HD is a heavy truck and will get you about 10 - 13mpg. A 1500 is lighter and will get 13 - 16. If you don't need the capacity of an HD no sense paying to move the extra weight.

builderpaul is absolutely right you really don't need a truck that is this heavy duty. A 1500 would do every thing that you want with out any problems at all. I think that you would be happier with a 1500 because of better gas mileage and cheaper parts like tires etc in the long run. Also a 1500 has a better ride a 2500 HD has a worse ride because of the heavy duty suspension.

I like the 2500 but I do not like the MPG. Another reason I like the 2500 is within the next 2 to 3 years .I would like to get a 5th wheel.

If a 5th wheel is in your furture get a 3500 SRW as there is nothin HD about the springs in the rear of a 2500HD as they are the same as on a 1500 HD and less than was on a OBS 2500. (my old style K3500 SRW has more springs in rear than that does and is rated at 9200 too but I had had it over 10k several times with no problems. One more thing, you might consider a 8.1 with a allision as it has a double OD and with likely get same MPG on road as 6.0 and will walk the dog with a 5th wheel. I drove one two days ago (I hve drive two 06 models) and it is a awesome combo and a blast to drive and in 6th it turns 2100 RPM at 70 even with 4.10's. Also you can get a alison with a 6.0 if you specail order it or find one with it as it would be a good cpmpromise and likely gain you a little MPG when not towing and it has a reverse gear more than twice as deep as the one in the 4L80 and would be really nice for backing up a nice heavy trailer. First gear is a lot deeper too (3.1 vs 2.48)

:jester: I have read all of the replys below and agree with them for the most part. IF, all you need to is get to work and pull a 1,900# boat, a 2500 is WAY too much and the mileage will be like everyone is saying, about 10-13. I have an 02 2500HD , crew cab, 4X4, with the 8.1/Allison and no matter what I do, I NEVER get over 12 MPG. Chevy makes good trucks, but all of their 1500 series will pull your boat, so I would go with which ever one gets the best MPG. I look at it this way. Every time I drive 12 miles, I roll down the window and toss three one-dollar bills out. That's about the size of it. Gas will only go up, and with the 4.10 gears, your mileage will never be good. My truck pulls my 8K pound 5th wheel with no sweat, (at 8 MPG also) but if I ever sell the 5th wheel, the truck will be the next thing to go for sure. Just my thoughts!!

I suggest going with the 1500. When you are ready to pull the fiver in a few years, then consider the 2500. You'll save plenty of gas money over those years. The 2500 is not a good choice for a daily driver if money is a concern.

If you are going to get an HD, then I'd suggest getting the 8.1 Big Block.

My 04 CC 4x4 8.1/Allison is averaging 10.5 city and 12-13 highway (sometimes better if I keep my foot out of it ).

That said, I agree with previous posts...a 1500 will suit your needs considering what you want it do to. But if you want the HD, get the HD. Nothing worse than a case of the "I wish I would have's"

Wrong... you can only get the allison with the Big block or the diesel... 6.0 you can only get the 5 speed manual or the 4l80

Yep,You can only get the 4L80E or 5-spd. trans. with the 6-liter,You cannot get the Allison with the 6-liter.

And I agree also,The 2500HD is overkill for a 1900lb. boat.

Your are all wrong because you can!! Any dealer that knows there stuff on trucks will tell you so too. Call Chevy if you do not believe me as it is a option and has been for all of 06 model year. (it is even listed on there web site and I am sure it has not been a error for the last 10 months either) the Dmax and 8.1 share bellhousings so it was easy for Ally production but when GM planned to release a V10 (which word is that it may be sheveled for a year) it was based on a different bolt pattern because it used 6.0 block so they made a different ally to fit the V10 and it fits 6.0 too hence the option. You cannot get it in a suburban because it requires a different floor pan that cuts into passenger side floor space that they do not want in the burb. You should check you ducks better before you take them out for a swim.

I have never heard of a new Allison, besides the new 6 speed version. BTW, MS3Dale works at a dealer so he should know. The only engines with the Allison are the Dmax and 8.1, period.

As far as the original question, buy the 1500.

Well lets see if your are right then Chevy's 800 number and their web site is wrong so this is a tuffy, whos wrong here??? Must be the manufacture huh? Also on the new tranny, they had to make a different bellhousing version of Allsion to be able to mate it with a 6.0/7.5 block because it has a different bolt pattern, not a all new design. If I worked at a dealer and did not know about this I would not brag about it and claim it false because it has been going on for all of the 06 model year. Somebody is having a lot of trouble with their ducks and they really need to round them up before they march them any further in the wrong direction.

PS: go to Chevy.com and build one now if you do not want to call them on the phone.

Go to GMC.com. Can't do it, it picks the 4L80E for you. These websites are not failsafe, it happens all of the time. Chevrolet.com needs to fix it. I like the whole V-10 story though, nice try "troll"man.

I am not the troll here. I have talked to Chevy have you??? You can get one and the site is not in error. I cannot speak to GMC though because I never check there and GMC options there trucks differently beacuse a automatic is standard on it unlike chevy. BTW, I considered ordering one and they did work me up a quote and COMFIRMED the Ally option on a 3500 WT package a few months ago before order cutoff (you can get it on a 2500 HD too). BTW, I have pictures and dyno charts for GM V10 (and info on a V6 Dmax they were testing in a truck too). I make it a point to know before others do on some things as I like the edge. GM is likely holding of on making the V10 while they ponder its future and the future of all big engines because if fuel spike to $5 a gallon in a few years, (which is quite possible) big trucks/SUV's with gas or diesel engines are not going to sell well when it costs 200 bucks to fill them up and the fuel payment exceeds the trucks payment. .
