GM Drive Cycle question...

Recommended Posts

Posted

When the OBDII brain-box takes a poll of all the sensors, their actions, and parameters, all that happens during a "drive cycle"....my question is: Must

a drive cycle be done BEFORE all codes (both stored and un-stored, written and un-written) can be read??

On edit: I was told that I cannot simply plug in a code scanner to see if there are

codes stored, *because*, there may be codes that are pending, awaiting a drive cycle to either store in memory or light the MIL/SES light (or both)...I looked up

the definition of a GM drive cycle and it takes in a lot and all the bases must be touched on correctly and at the right time, ie: Step B follows Step A, etc. The

site said that a cycle could be easily done in 15 minutes...(?)...

I cannot see how a GM Drive Cycle can be done, with a 17,500# rig, on a public road. A part of the cycle is a coast down from a sustained 55 MPH to 20 MPH, and sure enough, someone will pull out or slow down, right in front, and then the service brakes would have to be used. As I understand it, once the driver touches the brake pedal, the cycle is null and void, and the cycle must be started over.

I guess I'll have to not worry about the Drive Cycle... :fume:
