kind of weird - panel lights out

Recommended Posts

my cousin has a 2001 silverado and the dash lights have gone out. some lights, such as the radio lights and the illumination aroung the a/c controls still lights up as well as certain signals and indicators in the gauge panel. BUT, the actual lights behind the gauges are out. the gauges still operate properly and the information panel (cargo light on, low washer fluid, etc.) still operates. the only problem is the lighting. we have pulled all the fuses and replaced even some that were not busted just to make sure.

aside from taking it to the dealer and paying 70 bucs for someone to guess at what it could be, anyone have some suggestions?

thanks.

invest in a cluster!

I'm sure the lamps can be replaced.

If they all went out at once, it sounds more like a bad connection going to them or possible the dimmer portion of the switch is bad? Try working it back and forth and see if there is any glimmer of light at all. We have replaced a few switch assemblies on our Chevy delivery trucks.

If all else fails, I'm sure a good manual would spill the beans obn the bulb replacement and trouble shooting the wiring.

Good luck.

Up until 2003, the bulbs twist out from behind the cluster. Just pry off the dash bezel and unbolt the the cluster.
