2006 Removing stock am/fm radio for CD Player

Does anyone know what is needed to install an aftermarker CD player in place of a stock 2006 gmc Sierra am/fm radio? I was told that if I do so, even with a wiring harness I may lose function of the airbag, door chime, oil change minder etc. Does anyone know if this is true or is this guy full of it. I seen a wiring harness on crutchfield for $70 and it does not mention losing any functions. Please give any help before I tackle this job, or instead just replace it with a factory cd player. LIstening to just a radio sucks. Thanks.

You need that adapter (if you want to keep the chimes), an antenna adapter (to go from GM's mini plug to the standard plug), and then you need the mounting kit. The only issue would be if you have onstar or xm (you would need a different adapter). Other than that, you lose no functionality at all.

*EDIT* if you order from crutchfield, they give you the antenna adapter and mount kit free. Plus the Chime module they give you for $39 vs. $70.

I just purchased a 2500HD W/T with the am/fm radio also. I found a CD player out of a 2006 Escalade on ebay. Would that be a plug and play deal or would I still need some sort of adapter?

As I was like you and kept getting wrong info, I called Crutchfield. They assured me that all I neede was to wiring PAC-GM01(if memory serves me right), and the mounting kit as I already had the antenna adapter. Works like a charm! The speaker is in the harness, so that is where the door chime sound comes from, and you are able to somewhat deaden the sound, so it is not that loud.

Best buy wanted to put the OEM Inlin e with the aftermarket and hide it under the seat.

As Crutchfield states, they test all the stuff, so they know if it works.

I also got the harness for my steering wheel controls, and once I figured out what wire to tie into, it works as advertised.

So if youve got all the pieces, then get r done!

You`ll probably need the dealer to do a program update, so it knows what it is dealing with. Very common, even if the same radio is taken out then reinstalled. Like if your 5 yr old slides a penny in the CD player, and it has to be sent out for repair.

Not that this has happened to me before! HA HA

Thanks everyone for your replies. I ended up buying the metra GMRC-01 wiring harness and GM antenna adapter and everything works great. The only complaint I have is that the door chime the kit comes with is way too loud. It's sad that it cost $90 to install an aftermarket cd player but oh well. I will try to post pics when I figure how to work everything out.

Cut the brown wire on the outside of the case, and it deadens the sound a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
