1 ton with 6.5L turbo diesel question.

what kind of milage do the 6.5L turbo diesels get ?

we saw a nice 1 ton that would be cool if the ppl are open to offers, but the only diesel we've had was my old 6.something in my 83 Jimmy (and it had some horrible milage)

My chevy dealer says the diesel should get 40% better mileage than the 8.1 liter gas engine, which is about 15 in town and 19 to 20 on the road.

the truck is also a 97 is that matters.

Actually, with the 4.10 rear end, which is standard on the 3500 and what I have, mileage with the 6.5 TD is only 15 mpg on the highway at 65 mph average speed. With 3.73 rear end expect 17 mpg.

We had a 1996 2500HD 2wd Extendedcab longbed with the 6.5L/5-speed as a company truck. It had 3.73 gears. The pre-1997 motors are known to have coolant problems as well as some other issues. Ours got while empty around 17mpg. I've heard some get as much as 20 or so if driving correctly'.
