Tow/Haul Mode stuck on

I have a 01 sierra, could be a coincidence nut but since a heavy rail storm a few weeks ago my tow/haul mode goes on by it's self,(has never happened before) this happened for a week and after a few miles i was able to shut it off by pressing the button on the shift, then it did not happen for a week, now it is on again and will not go off, is there a way i can disable this mode, I never use it and do not need it, its becoming a real PIA, before i take it to a dealer just wondering if there is a fix I can do myself..

WOW>>> Thanks Man! I pulled the steering colum cover and there it was, A broken orange wire, did a quick repair and its working correctly again. (turning off and on) Outstanding, Glad I came here!!

The wires from the tow/haul switch often break at the base of the shift lever from all that flexing that goes on. Look there.

That makes sense, when it first started happening when I pushed the tow button and wiggeled the shift it would go off, does the plastic around the colum just pull off? Thanks for your help.

Some of those covers have screws, some don't. Don't know why that is, but it varies. The screws go up through the bottom cover so you'll just have to crawl under there and look. If no screws, then it just snaps apart.
