Well I walked out to my truck the other night & got an unwanted suprise. Started it up and got a low oil pressure warning & the gauge read 0. Killed it & checked the oil ( was fine ) & restarted with the same results. GM towed it yesterday and I'm still waiting for news. Real bummer as it just rolled over on 21K.

Dealer called today, they are pulling the motor next week. They are paying for a rental, so hopefully it will speed things along.

That sucks!!!

This is the first time I have heard of a premature oil pump failure...

At least the dealer is taking care of you....

Got the truck back today. The back pressure valve in the oil pump was stuck open. The mech dropped the front diff & oil pan to check things out. The pulled the rod & main caps & stated that the bearings looked great. They installed a new oil pump & called it fixed. I'm still under warranty but have we will have to see if it holds up or not. The dealer stated that since it has been documented that there was a problem it will be covered if anything happens. My fear is that the cam bearings and valve train which will lose lubrication before the crank may have suffered. The wive understands that the truck is history before the warranty expires.

I would get in touch with GM< and explain you aren't totally satisfied with the fix. I would ask them to extend the warranty on your engine for 100K miles.

It is not uncommon for GM to extend a warranty in cases like yours...
