Front glass for Yukon needed - smashed in France

Hi All,

Truck is a Yukon 04 SLT

I am traveling though Europe right now and stopping for lunch in France, some <insert very nasty four letter word here> smashed the Front Right Passenger side window, climbed in and totally emptied the truck. Now snow is coming, and I have a sheet of plastic on the door :banghead:

There is no real network here where I can search wrecking yards, and even so there are not a lot of Yukons/Tahoes here anyway. The nearest official dealer seems to be in Moscow, which is quite a haul, since I am now in the Czech Republic near Vienna, Austria.

Firstly does someone know approx. what this glass would cost at a dealer in the US. Also a guess at the weight I am going to check the cost to UPS one across, but air is the only option and that could be expensive. I can't wait six weeks for it to come by boat.

Second option would be a dealer in Europe that stocks them. So if anyone knows a dealer here, please let me know.

Third option is to look here in wrecking yards, so my question is what trucks (model and year) would have the same glass. Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban make sense, but in Europe you don't see many of them, but I do see quite a few Sierras and Silveradoes, they look the same, but are they. I am guessing that anything from 1999 to 2005 would have the same glass, but want to be sure. I know that tinting is an issue, but for now I just need to be able to drive.

Fourth, and maybe the best option is to find someone here that is wrecking a Yukon, and that I can pay with Pay Pal or something, and can UPS it across.

Fifth, I heard that there are people that make up windows using curved glass and templates. I am really really against this, but it might be a short term solution till I can get a real window.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

PS any hints or suggestions are appreciated.

That's a bummer. Have you thought about seeing if there are any US military bases around. I know some folks in the military take their vehicles with them when they are stationed overseas. They must get them fixed somehow at their bases. At the very least they might be able to help or refer you to someone who can help.

Great idea, I never thought of that. And I think there is a base in Nurnburg, which is not that far from here. Now just to work out how to gt in contact with someone there.

Thanks :banghead:

Well after a ton of calling around, I found that there is one central store in Belgium that has a window in stock, so I will have it next Wednesday. Only problem, is that being Europe, they just invent prices at random. In this case the price is $640.00 which to me just sounds over the top. But what can you do.

Anyone know what it should really cost?
