Diagnosing 99 Tahoe

Question

Posted

Ok...wifes' Tahoe hesitates when accelerating (sometimes). I know it has an exhaust leak right at the flange of the headers and the rest of the exhaust. I am planning to throw a new gasket in there and reset the codes and hope for the best. Can this type of thing screw witht eh computer so much as to cause the motor not to accelerate over 1000 rpms? She claims this happened so I drove it to work today and had no problems. Any thoughts?

Ya got a MAP code, O2 codes and lean codes there. I don't think that would cause the truck to not accel. over 1000 rpms.

There's just too much there to even guess what might be going on without some additional diagnosis. MAP codes can set when the vehicle is not running right for other reasons. The O2 codes may point to an O2 problem that's causing the lean codes. However, you have codes for both sides so it's unlikely that both failed at the same time.

You need to monitor MAP and the O2's WHEN THE PROBLEM IS OCCURING. Probably won't do much to look at the values when the vehicle is running normally.

Check your vacumn at idle. Possible intake gasket if you have the 5.3.
