What Series Flowmaster Do You Prefer?

I called the local mufler shop today about having a flowmaster put on and then custom 3" ran out both sides. Looking at keeping the single muffler into dauls out the sides. He asked if I wanted the 40 or 50 series? I want to hear it when I'm getting in it and I want people to hear me coming, yet I don't want to keep the kids awake in the crew cab from the rumbling. I have no experience with these mufflers so I'm asking those of you out there for your opinions.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I got a Flowmaster 40 Series on my Silverado and it sounds awesome, I think the 40 Series is the loudest Flowmaster Muffler. It sound really loud when you floor it and it idles loud but not exaggerated. I think it is the best muffler from Flowmasters.

Hey it all depends if you have a pick up or a SUV. I LOVE my 70 flomaster ( and so does the wife and kids).

it keeps the whole family happy. Infact Ive heard of guys loosing low end grunt with a mor open muffler. I feel the 70 is the best since it gives me noise when I want it and no noise when I dont. It also retains most of the factory back pressure thats needed for lower end grunt. just my 2 coins

I tell you the truth. If you have a tahoe or burb, the drone in the back seat at highway speed is bad, almost painfull to the little ones ears. My 70 is just right ( quite while at cruise) but hit the gas and it gets loud. At idle its there but not loud, at take off its really there but completely goes away at cruise. if your single and drive a pick up then go with the 40, but keep in mind these new engines need some back pressure. You will loose take off spead no dout.

I agree with everone that said that they like the 70 series, although I have not heard the others in real life, I know that I really like my 70 series. It is nice and quite cruising and louder when accelerating.

I had a single in /dual out 40 on my truck before the engine swap, sounded great. After the swap, I did 2 single/single 50 series, which ended up louder than my 40 series. The trick here is to find someone who has a similar set-up to yours and listen to their trucks. My old engine, a 305. The new engine, 383 stroker with headers. The stroker is louder, so the FM's are louder although they are a quieter muffler. The noise also has a lot to do with placment on your truck. If they are under the cab, they will be louder, if they are under the bed, less noise.

The moral to this story? Different set-ups have different soud levels.

we are a flowmaster dealer. and the original 40 is definetely the best sounding and the loudest muffler from flowmaster. it has the same sound level as the super 40. and like the guy above said. number of bends, length of tail pipes and everything have an impact on the sound

When I started my search for the dual conversion I was looking for the 70 series. The shop I ended up using stated they only carried the 40 and there reason was everyone they installed a 50 or 70 series in ended up coming back complaining about the absence of volume. The testament of others convinced me and for me they were correct. I would have been back asking for the change as I prefer the sound of the 40. My wife compalins about the drone on occassion but I don't find it obtrusive and enjoy the note.
