Wierd Pull In My Steering

Recommended Posts

I got my Tahoe. Love the truck all but for one thing. It is a 1997 2-Door Tahoe, with approximately 88,000 miles.

When turning right, as I turn, it will hit a point where all of a sudden it pulls to the right even more really quickly. Not enough to make the truck move much, but it feels like the steering wheel jumps 5 degrees to the right in my hands. Scares the s**t out of me. It usually happens when the steering wheel is turned about 30 to 45 degrees clockwise of center. It only does it going to the right. Is more pronounced when turning the wheel slowly, like turning into a slow turn on the interstate. And it only does it as I am turning the wheel. It doesn't do it if I am holding the wheel steady. I doesn't seem to matter if I am coasting, accelerating or braking.

It had the idler and pitman arm replaced right before I picked it up. My Mom said it doesn't 'pull' as sharp or hard as it did before, she has been driving the truck for about 2 months before I picked it up. The truck has 88,000 miles on it. The tire pressure was good when I checked. I am guessing the problem is in the steering box. Any one have an idea what it may be though? Any quick checks I could do myself?
