2006 Silverado Transmission Fluid Capacity?

Question

I am trying to service my transmission, I went to pep boys and was going to buy the service kit for my truck. It is a 2006 silverado 5.3liter flex fuel. They could not tell me the capacity of the transmission. I looked in the owners manual section 5-134 for capacities, and it showed for referigerate, oil, gas, differential, but not transmission?????

By the way it looks like I have a shallow pan for the fluid only looks 3" deep. Thank for any help!

Also I was going to use pennzoil mercon dextron VI fluid. Is that the right fluid and is it a good fluid to use I use mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, so I would like to use a real good quality trans. fluid also.

you have a 4L60E transmission,it will take 4L of trans oil, nothing wrong with GM dextron, keep your receipts for warrenty if needed, fill the trans to top of cold on stick,

Thanks for the quick reply, I crawled up under the truck and tried to find the ID# that would tell me which of the two transmissions my truck had, but I could not find it. That is why I posted here. I just bought the truck and it has 84,000 mile on it. It has been driven alot in the past almost 2 years, but it has been very well maintained, from the looks of the vehicle. But I do not have any prior service records so I want to change the transmission now.

And by the way no there is nothing wrong with GM transmission oil at all, I'm gonna go to the dealer and get the fluid and service kit from them now, but I was serviceing my wifes toyota camry the othere day and had to go to pep boys and while I was there I thought about needing to do my transmission so I was gonna just get everything while I was there. I would much rather stick with factory parts and fluids anyway.

I was told that the dextron VI that comes from the factory is a synthetic fluid is that right? And is that what the dealer will give me? I guess so if I ask for it HUH?? :)

Wow - is this site owned by GM, 'cause it sure does suck. No answer to your core question, just one single lame, droll snark.

Same as you, I F&%d-Up and bought a Chevy pickup -- everysinglething about has sucked so far; no exception here!
