Defroster

I was told today that when the defroster is on, the AC compressor is running to dry out the air a bit. Is this true?

As far as I know, yes. On my Civic, it really sucked! I needed all the power I could get! On my truck I dont even notice.

Yes it has been this way for 20 years, it is a de-humidifying process. If you choose to unhook the compressor, and the humidity is high you will have fog on your windows when it is cold. This doesnt happen in all areas of the country though.

Even WAY DOWN HERE in Texas... Window fog like a big dog if the compressor isn't running. It dries out the air and gets rid of the fog. Plus it keeps the compressor lubed and refrigerant circulated... so the seals don't dry out over the Winter.
