4"or 6" Lift For 2008 Chevy 2500hd?

Spent about eight hours reading as many posts here and other places on this subject as possible but now I suppose its time to fire off my first post.

I have a 2008,2500HD, crew cab long bed :sick: , 4x4 with the 6.0l and 4.10 gears on order which is due to arrive by the end of March. I've had many trucks with 4" of lift and 33's so I understand what that setup is capable of doing. I really would like a 6" lift on my new truck with 35" tires as the local dealer here sets them up all the time and I love the look. (I would have the lift installed elsewhere and understand the "warranty issues"). I don't tow often and when I do its around 3-5 thousand lbs on the hitch and this truck will be more of an occasional driver (toy) as I have other vehicles for work and four wheelers for the dirt. :D

I am really in a debate on the amount of lift. Will the 35" tires on a six inch lift to much strain on the new six speed transmission? I know 35's with the 4.10's is not the greatest but I will not have the truck re-geared so do I stick to a 4" lift with 33's to keep my ratios in line? What to do ???? I just don't want to screw anything up with the 6" lift if that makes since.

Thanks for reading the old man's post. Response welcome and appreciated.

If you're not going to re-gear, go with the 4" and 33's. The truck would be awesome with a 6" 35's, but if you don't re-gear, the 35's and 4.10's will be putting a lot of extra stress on the tranny.

By the way, we expect lots of pictures. :sick:

Seems to be a popular question as I have another thread in the suspension forums on here lol. I'll tell ya what I was told by a lift kit dealer here...."your paying the same price for a 4" inch or a 6" so why not get your money's worth and go big"?

6 inch with 35's not problem at all

If he doesn't regear he could have problems in the future, not to mention the overall drivability of the truck wouldn't be great with 35's and 4.10's.

so to run 35s its best to get larger gears than 4.10s? What size is good to run with them?

In general most people run:

4.10 = 33"

4.56 = 35"

4.88 = 37"

Those will give you a ratio similar to stock tires with 3.73's. I also know a couple of guys that have ran 4.88's with 35's and been happy.
