Couple Maintenence ?'s

Recommended Posts

I have an 01 GMC SIERRA 2500LD 4x4. I've got a few maintenence issues.

1. I have 5 dash lights that have "burned" out. Half of the HVAC lights have burned out. I took it apart, and realized that the bulbs seem to be sautered to the circuit board. Is this true, or do I just need to grow a pair and take the bulbs out? Also, where can I find replacements? There are a few other backlights like the ones in the HVAC panel, so I would assume they are hooked up the same.

2. The gear indicator seems to be having some issues. It sporadically decides to not highlight the selected gear that I am in. It doesn't do this all the time, but it seems to be happening increasingly more. If I run through all the gears with the shifter, sometimes the "highlighter" doesn't follow the gears I put it in. When it is malfunctioning, if I put it in 3 while driving, and then put it back into D, it hesitates for about 5 seconds before it highlights D even though the transmission itself works fine.

3. I can't seem to figure out why my fog lights don't work. I push the button, nothing happens. Is there an indicator light next to the button like there are on the defrost, AC, etc buttons? Is there a fuse that I can't seem to find?

If you guys could help, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Also, The 1 speed on the HVAC control doesn't work. Is this the controller, or is there some other part that would cause this?

That is typically a resistor located under the dash. This is a common problem-moreso in cars than trucks. My wife's old Malibus did that. It was a 30.00 part.

I can't offer any help on the rest, but i'm sure you'll get some answers soon.

Where at under the dash? Under the glovebox, or under the steering wheel?

Thanks

In the cars its under the glove box, I would think the trucks use the same part. When I went to the dealer for a new one he knew exactly what we going on and told me how to do it.

I thought the HVAC bulbs were replacments. Sounds like my F150 before it fell apart lol. Are you sure your fog bulbs are operable? There should be a light for them.

I know from my 2002 gmc sierra 2500hd the resistor is in the ductwork under the glove box next to the 2 cabin filters. You should see two or three wires coming off of the resistor. I would change the filters if you have them while your down there, I'm not sure of years of when they start and stopped having the filters.

Ok, I'll have to swing by the dealer and pick up that resistor.

Anyone got any ideas on the other problems? How come my dash lights aren't working properly?

Alright, I have the new resistor installed now and that did fix it.

What can I do about my dash lights not working? The 4 buttons under the 3 HVAC knobs do not light up. The indicator lights work, but they are not backlit anymore. What causes this?

What about the gear indicator? Most of the time it won't read correctly what gear I'm in. After a few seconds though, it adjusts to the right gear.

Any ideas on the fog lights? What should I look for?

Please, if you have anything to help, please post it.

Thanks

My best suggestion would be go back to the dealer and talk with them. The indicator seems out of hands, might be time for a new cluster. & the HVAC lights, if they are soldered in I would buy a new HVAC panel, but talk to the dealer first.

I consider that to be a good sign or a good design. :chevy:

Except in your case. :D

Good luck hope you fix your problem.
