Dual Battery - Gmt900

Recommended Posts

already installed the new battery - waiting for

http://www.custombatterycables.com

to come back from vaction to place order for (+) & (-) leads ...

while snopping around - i can attach the negative to the engine block - on my engine there is a un-used internal thread on the left engine bank - beneath Cyl 1 exhaust port ..

with the altenator being so close - i was thinking of adding the postive connection to the positive post off of the alternator ( I dont see any issues with it )

instead of running the connection back to the terminal panel located on the firewall - passenger side

(obviously making it a mechanically sound connection - secured and tied down)

alternator connection - good / bad ??

You really should buy a dual battery wiring kit instead of just tapping the existing connections...You may inadvertedly create a 24v connection and fry every electrical system on your vehicle.

thanks, i am aware of the concern from parallel to series routing ,,

positive to positive will create a 12v 1300 CCA

positve to negative will create a 24v 650 CCA

Go battery terminal to terminal for Neg, and Pos terminal for the second battery to the top right post of the termianl panel. This may take a bit more time, but will work better. Also this will ensure you don't bypass the Regulated voltage control system if your truck has it. I have done several with no issues.

I would just ground it to the factory location on the engine block. It's really not that far and doing so ensures that you have a good, solid ground. Here's a few pics of my install on a GMT900 Sierra Denali. I've had this setup for about six months now with no problem.
